Nvidia’s RTX 50-Series May Launch This Month

Wait, What? Nvidia's RTX 50-Series May Launch This Month Wait, What? Nvidia's RTX 50-Series May Launch This Month
Update: MEGAsizeGPU on X (formerly Twitter) has suggested that there may have been a misunderstanding regarding the latest Nvidia news. The information appears to indicate that Nvidia could finalize the design of its Blackwell architecture by September, rather than launching the graphics card. There have been no confirmed details regarding a release date. Below is the original article.

One thing is clear: Nvidia’s RTX 50-series graphics cards are on the way. However, the question remains: when? There has been rampant speculation surrounding the release dates. While early rumors hinted at a late 2024 launch, opinions have largely shifted to predict an early 2025 timeline instead.

New leaks suggest that Nvidia’s RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 might debut this month.

The latest leak comes via Benchlife, which claims that the RTX 5090D and RTX 5080D, utilizing Blackwell architecture, are set to officially launch in September. The “D” denotes these versions as specific to the Chinese market, but it seems unlikely for Nvidia to limit the release of new GPUs to just one region; typically, their launches are global.

Given the lack of further details from the publication, it’s uncertain whether this is a genuine leak or merely an outdated hope that we might see new graphics cards this year. Historically, Nvidia has launched its RTX series GPUs two years apart, usually in the last quarter of the year — aligning with the timelines of their previous generations.

However, an announcement in September doesn’t guarantee the GPUs would be available immediately. There’s a possibility they could launch in October or even November. Nvidia typically avoids announcing products more than a quarter in advance, making a September announcement paired with a January release highly improbable.

Additionally, Benchlife has echoed previous reports indicating that both the RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 may feature increased power demands, with the RTX 5090 rated at an astonishing 600 watts and the RTX 5080 at 400 watts—both of which exceed the consumption levels of their predecessors.

Could it be that Nvidia will indeed unveil its next-gen GPUs this month? At this point, it’s difficult to ascertain the truth among all the swirling rumors. A timely release could certainly shine a light on what has otherwise been a rather lackluster year for PC hardware, but it’s too early to stake any bets. Whispers suggest that AMD’s RDNA 4 and Intel’s Battlemage GPUs might not arrive until early 2025, providing Nvidia little incentive to rush their release.
