Tesla Needs to Resolve Another Issue with the Cybertruck

Tesla is addressing a problem with the rearview mirror in 27,000 of its Cybertrucks.

A recall notice submitted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) indicates that the recall affects vehicles built between November 13, 2023, and September 14, 2024, implying that nearly the entire fleet of Cybertrucks on the road is affected.

The report outlined that a delay in displaying the rearview camera — with images taking as long as eight seconds to show after shifting into reverse — could impair the driver’s ability to see what’s behind the vehicle. This situation raises the potential risk of a collision, though Tesla has stated it is unaware of any accidents, injuries, or fatalities related to this issue.

Tesla plans to implement a free, over-the-air software update to remedy the situation. In the meantime, they advise drivers experiencing the delay to conduct a visual check over their shoulder and utilize their mirrors while reversing the vehicle.

This recall marks the fifth instance, and the most significant, concerning Tesla’s Cybertruck since its launch in November 2023.

The first recall involved an accelerator pedal cover that could detach, leading to unintended acceleration. The second recall also affected several other Tesla models and addressed an issue with the text size of warning lights on the dashboard, which was resolved via an over-the-air update.

The third recall pertained to all Cybertrucks manufactured until June 2024, related to a malfunction in the electric motor that could result in the failure of the large windshield wiper. The fourth recall, issued concurrently with the third, dealt with body trim on the Cybertruck that risked detaching while the vehicle was in motion.
