Quentin Tarantino has expressed admiration for Nicolas Cage.
During a recent segment on the Video Archives Podcast, Tarantino devoted some time to praising Cage while highlighting a particular film as his latest favorite.
“While watching a few Nicolas Cage films, the one that completely captivated me was the movie Pig,” Tarantino stated. “That’s easily one of the finest films in the past five years. It’s one of the best I’ve watched in that timeframe.”
In Pig, directed by Michael Sarnoski, Cage plays Robin “Rob” Feld, an Oregon truffle forager who heads back to Portland to find the person who abducted his prized pig. The film received significant acclaim from critics, and Cage earned numerous nominations for his performance. Tarantino appreciated how Pig ventured into new creative territory, setting it apart from Cage’s earlier roles.
“Cage should feel proud of that film … the director did an exceptional job. It was truly remarkable,” Tarantino continued. “What’s particularly impressive is how the film sets itself up in the style of the ‘revenge’ movies we’ve seen Cage in recently, only to take a completely different and innovative turn.”
Although Tarantino’s positive remarks about Pig resonate with many movie enthusiasts, his favorable review of Joker: Folie à Deux sparked mixed reactions.
“I genuinely enjoyed it, much more than I expected,” Tarantino shared in a recent appearance on The Bret Easton Ellis Podcast. “I entered expecting impressive filmmaking, and I found it fascinating even when it didn’t fully adhere to traditional storytelling. I got swept up in it, especially the musical segments.”
