Months ago, rumors began circulating about Samsung’s yet-to-be-announced tri-fold smartphone, which could compete with the Huawei Mate XT. The buzz started when leaker Yeux1122 posted details on a South Korean social media platform. This same source has now resurfaced with a potential name for the device: the Samsung Galaxy G Fold. Additionally, the leaker indicates a possible launch timeframe of January 2026, drawing on insights from Ross Young, a supply chain analyst known for his accurate predictions. However, some reports suggest that the release could occur as early as late 2025.
According to Yeux1122’s blog on Naver, the Galaxy G Fold will measure approximately 9.96 inches in width and 6.54 inches in height. This model is expected to differ from existing smartphones by featuring a design that allows it to fold on both sides. The leaker noted, “Its weight is similar to the H, but it’s slightly thicker,” likely referring to the Huawei Mate XT, which weighs in at 298 grams (10.51 ounces) — significantly heavier than many flagship models like the iPhone 16 Pro Max. This additional weight may deter users if the overall build feels unwieldy.
The “G” in its name may signify its unique hinge design. The Galaxy G Fold could potentially be a double-folding phone, with the screen bending inward on both sides to safeguard it from scratches. This design would necessitate a secondary display on the back, resulting in a slightly bulkier device, although the difference in thickness would probably be minimal.
With few tri-fold phones on the market for comparison, the Huawei Mate XT launched with a hefty price tag of nearly $2,800. In contrast, the Galaxy S25 Ultra starts at around $1,300 for the most basic model. This suggests that the G Fold might easily exceed $2,000, presenting a significant challenge for Samsung. Consumer hesitation may stem from the high price of this innovative but still largely untested device.
