This year, the trend in the smartphone market is leaning towards slimmer designs. Oppo is set to launch what will be the world’s thinnest foldable smartphone. Meanwhile, speculation surrounding Apple’s upcoming iPhone 17 Air continues to swirl. Samsung has already taken the lead by showcasing its Galaxy S25 Edge in a live presentation.
Fortunately, it appears that the trade-offs typically associated with ultrathin devices may not be as significant as initially feared. According to a recent leak with confirmed hardware details, this sleek smartphone is expected to feature an impressive 200-megapixel rear camera.
This is particularly intriguing, as such high-megapixel camera sensors are usually reserved for the premium Galaxy S Ultra models. More than just a matter of value, packing a 200-megapixel sensor into the Galaxy S25 Edge represents a remarkable engineering achievement.

This news isn’t entirely surprising. Just a few months ago, Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition, which also boasted a 200-megapixel camera despite being its thinnest foldable model to date.
Interestingly, while the Galaxy S25 Ultra sports a flat design also featuring a 200-megapixel camera, the Galaxy S25 Edge will include a camera island that is slightly raised, with the lenses protruding from that bump.
In another example of cutting-edge technology, Oppo is equipping its upcoming Find N5 with a triple-rear camera system that includes a periscope-style zoom lens, all while maintaining a thickness just over four millimeters when unfolded.

Currently, Samsung has not released additional details about the Galaxy S25 Edge beyond its hardware showcase during its Unpacked event. The latest leak indicates that the device will feature an armor aluminum frame and a display shielded by Gorilla Glass Victus 2.
The screen is expected to utilize Samsung’s adaptive refresh rate technology, which will allow it to adjust fluidity between 1 and 120Hz, aiming for a seamless and efficient visual experience. Additionally, a vapor chamber system is rumored to be included for effective heat management, and the battery will support 25W wired charging.

Given its sleek metal design and slim profile, it seems unlikely that wireless charging will be included; however, Oppo is introducing 50W wireless charging with its forthcoming Find N5 foldable, making it possible that Samsung might surprise us with similar capabilities.
On a related note, the Galaxy S25 Edge is not aimed at consumers looking for a budget-friendly device or a flagship that can blow competitors away with its specs. Instead, it serves as a testament to the innovations and engineering prowess within the smartphone industry. Thus, it’s wise to adjust expectations accordingly.
