Rise of the Ronin – the samurai action RPG developed by Team Ninja – is set to launch on Steam on March 10, bringing with it substantial enhancements to performance and graphics. Originally released in March 2024 as a console exclusive, its transition to Steam introduces features like support for 8K resolution, ultra-wide and super ultra-wide monitors, 120 frames per second, ray tracing, and a plethora of other improvements.
Currently, the game is available for pre-order, and doing so will grant players in-game rewards. These bonuses mirror those offered during the PlayStation 5 pre-order phase, so if you already own the game, there’s no need to worry about missing out on new features.
In Rise of the Ronin, you’ll step into the role of a samurai known as a ronin, navigating through the tumultuous final years of the Tokugawa Shogunate when Japan faces the combined threat of western forces and internal conflict. Players can align with various factions and select their weapons, shaping their unique journey.
Weaponry options include the katana, spear, odachi, and a range of firearms and bows. Exploration is made easier with a grappling hook, while a glider allows players to navigate the landscape from great heights.
The game features a robust character customization system, letting players tailor their character’s appearance as they see fit. The decisions you make throughout your journey will influence your story’s ending, including pivotal choices such as whether to kill a significant political figure or spare them.
Digital Trends rated the PlayStation 5 version of Rise of the Ronin at 7 out of 10. The Steam edition aims to retain all the strengths of the original while adding several enhancements exclusive to PC gamers, such as 3D audio and DirectX 12 Ultimate support.
Despite its many upgrades, the system requirements remain manageable. To run the game, you’ll need at least 16GB of RAM, a GTX 1060 or higher, and 180GB of storage space. An Intel Core i5-10400 or better is also necessary, and it is highly recommended to use an SSD for the best experience. Rise of the Ronin will be priced at $50 on Steam upon its release, with pre-orders currently open.
