Nvidia’s CEO, Jensen Huang, stated that the RTX 5070 is designed to deliver performance on par with the RTX 4090, all within a laptop priced at $1,299. Essentially, this means that gamers can expect their new laptop GPU to perform similarly to a high-end desktop GPU from just two years ago — and the secret to this leap in performance lies in AI technology.
Nvidia has been enhancing its Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS) technology over the years, and it appears that the company is set to push the boundaries further with these gaming laptops. With the introduction of DLSS 4 and fifth-generation Tensor cores, Huang assures advancements in both visual quality and operational efficiency. These laptops will utilize the GPU to render a lower resolution version of a game while ray-tracing, leading to improved frames per second (FPS), reduced latency, and overall superior performance. Subsequently, the neural engine will fill in the additional pixels needed to achieve the targeted resolution.
The most astounding aspect is that, according to Huang’s statements, Nvidia has fine-tuned its technology sufficiently to produce high-quality results, even when scaling up from a significantly lower resolution — whatever is needed to reach RTX 4090-level performance on a laptop. If this sounds unbelievable, you’re not alone; many are eager to see if these claims hold true in real-world scenarios.
For the more premium GPU models in the lineup, the expectations are sky-high. The prospect of a $2,899 laptop boasting 1,850 AI TOPS is intriguing, and it will be fascinating to compare the performance of the RTX 5070 against the RTX 5090 to assess the impact of the additional AI capabilities.
At CES, various manufacturers showcased their RTX 50 series gaming laptops, including well-known brands like MSI, Acer, Alienware, Asus, Lenovo, and Razer.
