Anticipation for the new Mario Kart title is high among fans of the Nintendo Switch 2, but Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is still going strong. To celebrate Mario Day on March 10, Nintendo is hosting a community event aimed at achieving a total of one million laps across its diverse track offerings. This event runs from March 7 to March 17, and Nintendo is even providing a 14-day trial of Nintendo Switch Online for participants to join in on the fun.
Participants can earn up to 310 Platinum Points just for racing. To get started, simply launch Mario Kart 8 Deluxe during the event and navigate to Online Play > Tournaments > Search by Code. Enter the code 1152-2501-4827 and hit the track.
While competing online, it’s worth noting that the lap counts accumulate based on the number of racers in a race. For instance, in a three-lap race with 12 participants, that would pile up to 36 laps. Given this system, it won’t take long to hit the million mark—especially if you toss in some rounds on Baby Park, which has seven laps, or other longer courses.

Nintendo has also unveiled a special Super Mario-themed tote and a Mario Kart 8 Deluxe License Holder, both of which can be obtained with your hard-earned points.
The community challenge for a million laps is just one of many ways Nintendo is inviting fans to celebrate their beloved character. Remarkably, the company has pulled out all the stops in 2025, even featuring a custom JetBlue airplane named the Cloudtop Cruiser, adorned with images of Mario and friends, as well as offering playable Mario games during flights.
Additionally, there are sweepstakes available for trips to Super Nintendo World, and the Alarmo clock will be available for purchase starting March 9.
