Trailers
The official reveal trailer of Ninja Gaiden 4 was an unexpected highlight during the Developer_Direct 2025 event hosted by Xbox. While the trailer was brief, more details were shared throughout the direct presentation.
The trailer introduces us to a transformed Tokyo, showcasing the aftermath of Ninja Gaiden 3. The story reveals that the Dark Dragon has returned, unleashing chaos with relentless cursed rain. The first character we see is Yakumo, a new hero who embodies the spirit of a young ninja. Although he seeks to become a master, Yakumo is part of a clan that stands in opposition to the famous Raven clan. He eventually crosses paths with Ryu, presenting a dynamic relationship between the two.
Gameplay

Both Yakumo and Ryu are set to be playable characters, with Yakumo taking the lead as the new protagonist. The gameplay maintains the signature speed and intensity of the Ninja Gaiden franchise, enhanced by the stylish flair known from co-developer PlatinumGames. Players can expect fluid dodging, precise parrying, and visually striking finishing moves that highlight the game's brutal nature.
Classic moves such as the Izuna Drop and Flying Swallow are returning, but the gameplay system has evolved extensively. While the challenge remains high, Yakumo introduces new combat styles. The Nue style emphasizes sweeping attacks suited for groups and can unleash devastating Bloodbath Kills. Conversely, the Bloodraven style focuses on precision combat akin to the original games. Ryu, while incorporating some classic techniques, may also experience new twists to his abilities.
Enemies include cybernetic ninjas wielding various weapons, with boss battles designed to challenge players' timing and reflexes. Upgrading weapons through Bloodbind Ninjutsu is possible, although details on weapon variety and enhancements are still under wraps.
Traversal mechanics have also evolved; Yakumo can now use abilities such as ninja runs, slides, grappling, and even rail grinding, reminiscent of classic platforming games.
