Kayce Dutton is making his way to CBS with the new series Y: Marshals, a spinoff from the hit show Yellowstone, featuring Luke Grimes in the lead role.
In this upcoming series, Kayce joins a specialized unit of U.S. Marshals. According to the synopsis from Variety, the character will utilize his cowboy roots and Navy SEAL training to deliver justice across Montana. He and his team must navigate their personal lives while managing the intense pressures that accompany their role as the last defense against rising violence in the area.
SEAL Team writer Spencer Hudnut will serve as the showrunner, executive producer, and writer for Y: Marshals. Taylor Sheridan, the creative force behind the Yellowstone franchise, will also be an executive producer alongside David C. Glasser. Other executive producers involved include Grimes, John Linson, Art Linson, Ron Burkle, David Hutkin, and Bob Yari.
Y: Marshals is a sequel set following the events of Yellowstone, which ran on Paramount Network for five successful seasons from 2018 to 2024. CBS has officially greenlit 13 episodes for the new series, with filming scheduled for this summer and a premiere anticipated in mid-season of 2026 on Sunday nights.

In the series finale of Yellowstone, Kayce transferred ownership of the Yellowstone ranch to the reservations for a mere $1.25 per acre—the same price his ancestor James Dutton paid in 1883. In exchange, Kayce received a small plot of land to share with his wife, Monica (Kelsey Asbille), and son, Tate (Brecken Merrill). It remains to be seen if Asbille, Merrill, or other characters from Yellowstone will appear in the spinoff beside Kayce.
Y: Marshals is among several planned spinoffs from the Yellowstone universe. The prequels 1883 and 1923 have already aired on Paramount+, and both Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser will return as Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler in the upcoming series Dutton Ranch, which is set to broadcast this fall. Unlike Yellowstone, both Y: Marshals and Dutton Ranch will also be available for streaming on Paramount+.
Additionally, a spinoff featuring Michelle Pfeiffer titled The Madison and the prequel 1944 are also slated to stream on Paramount+.
