Just last week, we shared the news that production of the RTX 40-series is concluding. New insights from Board Channels (noted by Gazlog) indicate that the final shipments of Nvidia’s top-tier graphics cards are imminent. Certain models, such as the RTX 4090, have already completed their last shipments. With the holiday season approaching, this might be one of the final chances to purchase the RTX 40-series at a good price before availability decreases.
Although the RTX 40-series has been on the market for two years, it has generally maintained strong pricing. The RTX 4090 has only increased slightly from its initial manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP), and the rest of the range has remained relatively stable, sticking close to their launch prices. However, if the latest reports are accurate, the situation could change dramatically.
Board Channels also mentions that Nvidia is gearing up for the launch of the RTX 50-series, expected in early 2025. The RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 are set to arrive in January, followed by the RTX 5070 in February. Consequently, the current generation’s counterparts are expected to be the first to cease production and shipping.
The RTX 4070 Ti Super and RTX 4080 Super have reportedly been discontinued. In fact, the RTX 4080 Super is nearly finished with shipments, expected to wrap up in November. Following closely, the RTX 4070 Ti Super will also see its supply dwindle.
Nvidia is likely winding down the availability of its popular mainstream GPUs, including the RTX 4070 and RTX 4070 Super, having reduced their supply last quarter, with final deliveries scheduled for December. This poses a significant challenge for gamers, as both the RTX 4070 and its Super version are regarded as some of the best-value cards in this generation.
While halting shipments does not imply that all stock will be cleared this year, it appears Nvidia is proactively managing inventory levels. An abundance of last-generation GPUs at the time of launching new models could lead consumers to opt for the often discounted older cards rather than purchasing pricier new models like the RTX 4090.
There are already murmurs that the RTX 50-series could carry hefty price tags. Rumored prices are eyebrow-raising, with suggestions of $2,500 for the RTX 5090, though more conservative estimates hover around $1,900 to $2,000. A user on X (formerly Twitter), Bits and Chips, indicated the RTX 5090 may be priced at approximately $1,900, representing a $300 increase over the RTX 4090’s launch price.
Nvidia’s flagship model serves as an example of supply and demand dynamics. It has been in high demand over the last two years, making it challenging to locate a new unit for under $2,200 currently. With the conclusion of shipments for the 40-series, we could witness a rise in prices for other RTX 40-series models over the next few months, akin to the price trends observed with the RTX 30-series in the past.
