The Gemini app has a lot to offer, but one notable feature is currently missing: the ability to analyze videos uploaded from your computer or mobile device. However, it appears that this could soon change, as a closer look at the APK code suggests that Google is developing a video upload capability. This enhancement could enable Gemini to analyze and summarize videos uploaded directly by users, allowing it to compete more effectively with ChatGPT, which already includes this functionality.
In an in-depth examination of the Google app beta’s APK source code, Android Authority uncovered some intriguing insights. Since this information originates from an official Google application, there’s a good possibility that such a feature will ultimately be integrated into Gemini. Nevertheless, it’s advisable to take these findings with a grain of caution.
Delving into the source code of the latest beta version (16.9.39.sa.arm64), references to terms like “attached video file,” “play video file,” and “video file length” were found. Currently, Gemini can analyze and summarize websites, images, and videos, but only if users provide a link. These new references hint that soon, users may be able to upload videos directly into the Gemini app and receive AI-generated summaries.
While Android Authority conducted tests to see if this feature was already in place, they discovered that, although they could upload a video file for the chatbot to process, Gemini could not yet analyze it or play back any video content within the app. This is likely expected, as the feature is still in development.
With ChatGPT already offering the ability to upload videos for summarization, incorporating this functionality into Gemini would be a significant advancement for the app, helping it maintain competitiveness in the ever-evolving landscape of AI chatbots.
