At the September 2024 State of Play event, Sucker Punch Productions unveiled Ghost of Yotei, a sequel to the acclaimed 2020 title Ghost of Tsushima. This new adventure is set to launch on the PlayStation 5 in 2025.

The narrative introduces a fresh female protagonist named Atsu and unfolds in the year 1603, more than 300 years after the original game’s timeline. This installment takes place in the region of Mount Yotei, which is part of what is now known as Hokkaido, Japan. In 1603, this area was not under the governance of Japan and features a diverse landscape that includes both grasslands and tundra. Notably, the story will likely diverge from the organized samurai factions depicted in Ghost of Tsushima, though specific plot details remain under wraps.

The announcement trailer features Atsu wearing her ghost mask as she rides through vast open landscapes. During her journey, she encounters a wolf that initially appears menacing. However, after a brief standoff, the wolf retreats in the direction of a strong wind. It remains uncertain if this wolf will play a significant role in the storyline, possibly as a companion.

Ghost of Yotei marks Sucker Punch’s first title specifically designed for the PS5, fully utilizing the console’s advanced technology. Players can expect enhanced sight lines that allow for expansive views of the game world, as well as beautifully detailed night skies adorned with stars and auroras. Furthermore, the developers have teased the inclusion of new gameplay mechanics and weaponry in this upcoming title.
