In just one week, Samsung is set to introduce its newest device in the Galaxy S25 lineup, and we’re catching glimpses of its specifications and images of the Galaxy S25 Edge. At a mere 5.8 mm thick, this smartphone is anticipated to be the sleekest modern device yet, featuring a dual-camera system with an impressive 200MP telephoto lens.
Samsung is expected to unveil more details during its keynote next Monday. However, with such a thin design, durability could pose a challenge, as seen with many folding devices. To address this, Samsung announced that the Galaxy S25 Edge will debut with the innovative Corning Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2.

Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 is the successor to the original Ceramic, which has protected premium smartphones over the last year and had recently been adopted by folding phones like the Motorola Razr Ultra 2025. Kwangjin Bae, Samsung’s EVP and Head of Mechanical R&D of Mobile, stated:
The Galaxy S25 Edge will set a new standard for craftsmanship and performance as our slimmest Galaxy S series device yet. To support this breakthrough design, it was essential to develop a display material that was both exceptionally thin and reliably strong.
Notably, Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 enhances durability and crack resistance for ultra-thin smartphones, such as Apple’s anticipated iPhone 17 Air. It includes advanced crystals embedded in the glass matrix, while Corning’s ion exchange process significantly boosts the strength and protection of the display.
This new glass is engineered to pave the way for even thinner smartphones without sacrificing structural integrity. Andrew Beck, Vice President and GM at Corning Gorilla Glass, remarked:
With Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2, we’ve achieved a remarkable combination of thinness and strength, offering consumers exceptional durability in a modern, sleek, and premium design.
The Galaxy S25 Edge is the first smartphone to utilize this innovative glass. While Samsung and Corning have yet to disclose more details about the added durability or its applications for future smartphones, it will be intriguing to observe whether this protection remains exclusive to Samsung, especially with the Galaxy Z Fold 7 hinting at becoming one of the thinnest phones available.
What additional features will the Galaxy S25 Edge and Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 bring to the table? Stay tuned for Samsung’s major announcement scheduled for 8 PM Eastern Time on May 12th.
