Following Jonathan Majors’ departure from Marvel, Colman Domingo has emerged as a potential candidate to take on the role of Kang the Conqueror.
During a recent chat with Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Domingo clarified his involvement with Marvel. After noticing his name frequently linked to Kang, he and his team decided to reach out to the studio for clarification.
“When I kept seeing it in the media and on social media, I thought, ‘Hold on. Is this actually happening? Am I being considered for Kang?’” Domingo shared with Horowitz. “I called my team and asked, ‘Are there discussions going on that I don’t know about?’ They assured me there weren’t. ‘Are you sure you’re not being secretive or something?’ They weren’t.”

Originally, Majors was positioned to be the next major antagonist in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, succeeding Josh Brolin’s Thanos. However, in December 2023, Marvel terminated Majors’ contract after he was convicted of reckless assault and harassment. This left the studio searching for a new actor to portray the villain in the previously titled Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.

While Domingo expressed interest in joining the Marvel franchise, he made it clear he wasn’t looking to take Majors’ place. The two-time Oscar nominee is keen on creating a character that is uniquely his own, built “from the ground up.”
“I’m all about the right energy, and I want to engage in projects that resonate and bring positive energy,” Domingo explained. “I’m searching for a part that belongs to me, in whatever form that takes. It just didn’t feel right to think about replacing someone else. I want to cultivate something that is entirely my own.”
Eventually, Marvel shifted its focus from Kang to Doctor Doom and cast Robert Downey Jr. for Avengers: Doomsday.
Currently, Domingo lends his voice to Norman Osborn in the Disney+ series Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man.
