We now have more insight into Gears of War: E-Day. The developer People Can Fly has announced that it is collaborating with The Coalition on this project. Having previously served as a partner on Gears of War 1-3 and as the lead developer for Gears of War: Judgment, this return signals a significant moment for the studio.
In a blog post, People Can Fly expressed their excitement, stating, “We are honored to return to the world of Gears of War, a franchise that is deeply embedded in our studio’s history. As the lead developer of the iconic Gears of War: Judgment and a co-development partner on Gears of War 1-3, we have always had a passion for this series and its enduring legacy.”
Mike Crump, the head of The Coalition, provided additional details. He explained, “Gears of War: E-Day is not only our next major installment; it’s also a return to the core elements that make Gears of War so special and true to its roots. We’re thrilled to collaborate with the talented team at People Can Fly, who have been integral to our franchise’s history for many years.”

The specifics about the game itself remain limited, but the official announcement trailer is available at the top of the page. Guillaume Barry, Development Director at People Can Fly, mentioned, “While we can’t reveal more details just yet, we are eager for the day we can showcase all the exciting developments we’ve been working on.”
The narrative will unfold on E-Day, a pivotal event when the Locust Horde—the franchise’s main antagonists—first emerged from beneath the surface of the planet, leading to catastrophic consequences for humanity, destroying a quarter of the population.
Players will step into the role of Marcus Fenix once more in this origin story, battling alongside beloved characters like Dom Santiago as they face an unprecedented surge of Locust across the globe.
While there has been no announcement regarding a release date or window, it has been confirmed that Gears of War: E-Day will be available on launch day through Xbox Game Pass, being a first-party title. With both People Can Fly and The Coalition previously delivering high-quality games, fans are hopeful that E-Day will meet the same exceptional standards.
