In August 2019, a class action lawsuit was filed against Apple, claiming that the company violated user privacy. The plaintiffs argued that their Siri-enabled devices recorded conversations without their knowledge, which were then sold to advertisers for targeted online ads. Some users even reported being recorded when they hadn’t activated Siri at all.
While Apple has agreed to a $95 million settlement, the company maintains that it did not do anything wrong. “Siri has been engineered to protect user privacy from the beginning,” said an Apple spokesperson. They emphasized that Siri data has never been used for marketing profiles or sold to any third party.
Who Can Join the Lawsuit?
The eligibility criteria for the lawsuit are quite broad. If you have lived in the U.S. or its territories and owned a Siri-enabled Apple device between September 17, 2014, and December 31, 2024, you may qualify for compensation.
To join the claim, you must attest that you unintentionally activated Siri on each device during that period and that the conversations were confidential.

Payment Details
Each device claim is capped at $20, but the actual amount may be lower depending on the number of claimants. You can claim a maximum of 5 devices per person, which would total up to $100. However, as the fund is divided among claimants, the payout per device could decrease, potentially down to a few dollars.
Canadian Residents Take Note
A similar class action lawsuit has been initiated by Lex Group INC. in Canada, targeting Apple for the same issues. If you have owned Siri-enabled Apple devices in Canada, you might be part of this class, provided the court approves the action.
