Are you experiencing issues with the Malayalam Inscript keyboard on your iOS device? Since the release of iOS 18.0 and the current 18.5, many users have noticed that the letter NGA (U+0D19) is missing. Don’t worry; you’re not alone, and there are ways to work around this problem. Here’s a simple guide on how to access the letter NGA and make your typing experience smooth again.

Step 1: Reporting the Issue to Apple

First, it’s a good idea to let Apple know about this missing letter. Your feedback could help them bring back NGA in future updates. To submit your feedback, visit the Apple Product Feedback page and share your experience.

Step 2: Alternative Keyboards

While you wait for a fix, you can still access the letter NGA using alternative keyboard options:

  1. Transliteration and Alphabetic Keyboards: Both of these keyboards available on iOS still include the NGA character. You can switch to these keyboards in your device settings by navigating to Settings > General > Keyboard > Keyboards and adding the options that support Malayalam.

  2. Download the Keyman App: For a more comprehensive solution, consider installing the Keyman app. This app offers various custom keyboards, including one that supports Malayalam.

    • After downloading Keyman, you can access the Malayalam keyboard specifically designed to include the NGA character. To find it, go to the Keyman keyboard page.
  3. Using Shift Key: In the Keyman app, you can find the NGA character on the Shift + HA (ഹ) key. Experimenting with this could provide the typing flexibility you need.

Conclusion

While it’s frustrating to deal with missing characters, you have some practical workarounds until Apple resolves the issue. Don’t hesitate to submit your feedback and explore alternative keyboards like Keyman to keep your typing on point. Happy typing!
