One of the more frustrating aspects of Windows 11 is its inclusion of advertisements in the Start menu, promoting various applications and services from the Microsoft Store. Fortunately, there’s a way to disable these intrusive ads.

To remove these ads, begin by opening the Start menu. Next, type in Settings and select it. In the left sidebar, choose Personalization, then scroll down and click on Start. Here, locate the option labeled Show recommendations for tips, shortcuts, new apps, and more, and switch the toggle to Off.

By turning this option off, you prevent advertisements for Microsoft Store products and services from showing up in the Start menu.

The appearance of advertisements in the Windows 11 Start menu was first noted by users in April, and Microsoft seems dedicated to maintaining this approach, as similar ads are now also appearing in Windows 10.

This trend is understandable, as Microsoft aims to enhance visibility for its applications and services within frequently visited sections of the OS, effectively encouraging users to purchase these offerings or subscribe to services such as Microsoft 365. It’s likely that they wouldn’t continue this strategy if it wasn’t effective.

While it’s undoubtedly irritating that Microsoft is inserting advertisements in various parts of its operating system, at least users have the option to disable them.
