Like in any BioWare title, romance plays a significant role in Dragon Age: The Veilguard. Beyond battling elven gods and dragons, you will invest considerable time nurturing relationships with your companions. If you choose, these friendships can evolve into romantic connections.
Before you commit to a specific character, there are several factors to consider. You’ll need to thoughtfully decide who to pursue romantically and also contemplate their role within your team as well as your interest in their personal storylines. First, it’s essential to familiarize yourself with the characters you can romance throughout the game.
All Characters Available for Romance
You can pursue a romantic relationship with any of the companion characters. While not all are available from the beginning, you will meet all seven romance options as you progress through the story:
- Bellara
- Davrin
- Emmrich
- Harding
- Lucanis
- Neve
- Taash
Some narrative choices may delay your ability to romance a character.
How to Begin a Romantic Relationship
After deciding whom you want to pursue, go to their room in the Lighthouse. An orange exclamation mark or a speech bubble will appear next to their icon on the map, indicating that you can interact with them. Talking to them will trigger a side quest or conversation that strengthens your relationship.
During your discussion at the Lighthouse or within the side quest, look for dialogue options featuring a heart icon. Instead of the usual icons like the path or thumbs up, you’ll find a prominent red heart. This is the option to choose when aiming for a romantic relationship, without exception.
As you engage in more conversations and complete their companion quests, you’ll eventually receive the option to ‘begin a romantic relationship’ with that character, followed by a prompt to commit to an exclusive relationship one quest later.
All Consequences of Romance
Once you develop a romantic relationship, you’ll observe various changes, some of which can aid you in other aspects of the game.
- You’ll achieve the highest relationship level, which is Level 10. Each character has a unique name for this level.
- Your conversations with your partner will evolve to reflect the romantic aspect of your relationship.
- You will gain access to a new skill and a legendary armor set for the character you choose to romance.
- While not exclusively linked to romance, you will unlock the status of Hero of the Veilguard for your companion, enhancing their support and skill strength. This is critical for significant story decisions later in the game.
Can You Romance Morrigan?
Early in the story of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, you will encounter Morrigan. As a fan-favorite character from the series, many players hope to romance her. However, you cannot pursue a romantic relationship with Morrigan in this game.
Can You Romance Multiple Characters?
While you can flirt with all characters, you can only engage in a romantic relationship with one character at a time. Once you commit to a romance, you cannot pursue another companion simultaneously.
