In Abiotic Factor’s GATE, you’ll find lots of advanced technology, some created by scientists on Earth and others from fantastic worlds accessible through portals. One of the simplest and most common devices is the Power Cell.

Many mechanical and technological items in GATE operate on Power Cells, but they are hard to come by because of previous research and the chaotic events during your orientation. To get some, you’ll have to go to another world and fight off hostile soldiers.

How to Get the First Three Power Cells

The first three Power Cells you’ll need to progress in the story are in the portal world called Flathill. Accessing this world requires you to advance the story and have a Keypad Hacker (Tier One).

It’s advisable to wear a Hazardous Materials Suit and take iodine tablets when carrying or moving Power Cells, as they emit high levels of radiation.

To acquire these Power Cells, you’ll need to complete tasks such as defeating Security Bots for their CPUs and exploring the Office Sector. The quickest way is:

  • Take the lift past the Security Office to Level Three.
  • Use a portal to enter Anteverse II, then exit into the main section of Level Three.
  • Find Silo Three, speak to Dr. Mayfield nearby, and get the recipes for the Keypad Hacker—its components and the hack itself.
  • Craft the Keypad Hacker with an LCD Screen, Infrared Emitter, and Controller, then use it to access Silo Three and activate the portal to Flathill.

Once inside Flathill, navigate a linear path through the buildings while avoiding roaming enemies called Composers. Power Cells in Flathill are static, but they respawn every few days, making it a renewable resource.

Your route involves passing through shops, the residential area, and into the first building on the left for the first Power Cell. Then, move towards the arcade and its roof for the second Power Cell. Continue through an office-like building, a library, and the library roof for the third Power Cell. The goal is to reach the rooftops of each building, where each Power Cell is stored along with a portal to the next area.

It’s helpful to unlock shortcuts on building roofs to return to the street easily. After collecting all three Power Cells, you can continue your journey, using one to open the way to Manufacturing West. The other two can be used to craft valuable items like the Pipe Pistol, Scrapshot, or Tier Two Keypad Hacker.

Other Sources of Power Cells

Besides Flathill, Power Cells can be found outside the portal world, mostly in Manufacturing West, with additional supplies in later sections of GATE.

In Manufacturing West, you can find several Power Cells:

  • Inside a hanging shipping container above the Blacksmith’s area, accessible via platforming or jump pads.
  • On the floor of the Mapping Center near a dead scientist.
  • In a station underneath Shipping.
  • In the back of an overturned truck near radioactive waste (requires draining waste).
  • On a shelf in the Shipping Supply Room, alongside a TV about forklifts, a Soil Bag, and sometimes a Lab Rat enemy.

In Cascade Laboratories:

  • In a freezer in Cold Storage on Level Three.
  • Behind an office desk near an Ornate Crate in the Control Center.
  • On a shelf in the Server Room at the Control Center.

In Hydroplant:

  • Behind a broken SUV near Defense Bots.
  • In a pool in the Village Den, where a dead scientist and a Neutrino Mapper are located.

In Reactors:

  • In the back of a truck at Gale Reactor camp.
  • On the ground next to radioactive tanks in an underwater section.
  • In a liquid pool beside a cracked wall and radioactive tanks at Gale Reactor.

What Are Power Cells Used For?

Power Cells serve two main functions: crafting mid-to-late-game items and powering certain equipment, mainly forklifts. The first use is to repair forklifts, starting with the one near Manufacturing West. Other forklifts can also be fixed with Power Cells, allowing you to drive them and transport goods.

Most machines or vehicles that need repair require a Pipe Wrench, which can usually be found on shelves or dropped from broken wooden crates in Manufacturing West.

Many items crafted from Power Cells, such as the Tier Two Keypad Hacker, are essential for story progression or highly useful. Keeping a good supply stored safely in a Hazard Chest is recommended.

All Recipes That Use Power Cells

Certain recipes require Power Cells, including:

  • Keypad Hacker (Tier Two): uses a Tier One Keypad Hacker, Power Cell, Military Electronics, and Reinforced Hoses.
  • Battery (Industrial): requires a Power Cell, Rebar, an Air Compressor, and Metal Scrap.
  • Transmogrifier: needs Rebar, Metal Scrap, a Power Cell, and Anomalies.
  • Weaponry and Devices: like Pipe Pistols, Scrapshot, Pest Wheel, Pest Teleporter, Brain Sync, Portal Toilet, Platform Cart with Headlights, Charge Shield, Long Jump Pack, and vehicles like SUV and Security Cart kits, all require Power Cells along with other materials listed in their recipes.

Maintaining a stockpile of Power Cells is crucial for crafting and equipment repairs, helping you stay prepared for the challenges ahead.
