While Frostpunk 2 is known for its challenging and intense gameplay, the introduction of Serenity Mode provides a welcome relief from the relentless winter apocalypse. This feature boosts your resources and reduces some of the darker aspects of the game, giving players a chance to step away from the screen for brief moments, perhaps to finish an abandoned meal.
Serenity Mode comes with a variety of adjustments. Although some hardcore fans might shy away from a mode perceived as too lenient for a Frostpunk game, it can be the perfect opportunity to familiarize yourself with the game’s more intricate challenges.
What Is Serenity Mode?
In a Utopia Builder scenario, Serenity Mode can be added as a playstyle for your map. Activating it will modify the game in the following ways:
- Cold waves will be less severe and shorter.
- The Central Districts will automatically generate a small supply of all resources.
- Factions won’t gain Fervour but can still protest if their relationships decline.
- More resources will be available and appear more often in the Frostlands.
- One tier of research for each resource will be completed at the game’s onset.
- You’ll start with five Steam Cores instead of just one.
- The initial area will have a broader selection of pre-frostbroken zones.
This mode is fully compatible with both Survivor and Extreme gameplay modes, as well as all three Utopia Builder Tales.
Colonies established with Serenity Mode enabled will generate resources similar to your capital city, significantly reducing the amount of materials needed for transporting between colonies and making creation much simpler.
When Should I Use Serenity Mode?
Serenity Mode mainly serves as a more laid-back option for starting most maps.
However, the challenge of higher difficulty levels and the introduction of Tales can somewhat counterbalance its relaxing aspect.
For instance:
The key uses of Serenity Mode are likely to be one of the following:
- Helping you adapt to higher difficulties or navigate through Tales,
- Assisting with achieving specific goals, or
- Providing a more relaxed gameplay experience.
Frostpunk 2 can be intense. Players don’t need to endure unnecessary hardship to appreciate the game. There’s no embarrassment in using Serenity Mode—whether for enjoyment, achievements, or learning.
Using Serenity Mode is particularly beneficial for those looking to delve into the game’s Ideas, mechanics, and creative strategies. It reduces some of the pressures so you can concentrate on your areas of interest.
For newcomers, it’s a way to ease into the gameplay. For experienced players, it opens up avenues for enjoyable exploration. Much like other tools in the game, Serenity Mode is an aid, not a crutch.
