Old Coins are the primary collectibles in Dynasty Warriors: Origins. Found throughout China, these artifacts from a bygone dynasty don’t carry monetary worth but represent Ziluan’s reputation among others. With a total of five hundred coins available, players must possess both patience and skill to track them all down across several playthroughs of the story.
At the beginning of your journey, it’s wise to adopt a strategy of looking for Old Coins wherever you explore. The sooner you gather them, the more rewards you’ll unlock to benefit you in future confrontations.
How To Collect Old Coins
There are three key methods for gathering Old Coins in Dynasty Warriors: Origins.
Locate Them on the World Map
Only a specific number of Old Coins are hidden on the World Map. Unlike some resources such as Pyroxene and Moongrass, these coins don’t regenerate; you can only collect them once.
Old Coins can be difficult to notice unless you are right next to one, but their visibility improves significantly when using the Eyes Of The Sacred Bird to scout the area. Upon unlocking a new province, your first step should be to use the Eyes and search for hidden Old Coins.
Finish Missions and Character Requests
Completing certain side quests given by your fellow officers rewards you with Old Coins. Keep an eye out for new characters to converse with on the World Map whenever the story progresses. Even simple tasks like advancing a Bond storyline can lead to earning additional Old Coins.
To see who is available for conversation, hover over each province on the map menu, or check the Interactions tab at the Shui Jing Retreat (refer to the details below). Some characters might only show up after reading a letter they’ve sent.
Once you reach the end of the main game, make sure to complete all side quests before starting over again. This approach prevents you from having to return to Chapter Five’s endpoint from the beginning.
Take on Ultimate Warrior Challenges
Completing the main storyline unlocks Ultimate Warrior Difficulty. When you replay missions on this level—either for the first time or via the Inn— you will face an optional Challenge that typically involves completing objectives rapidly or defeating tough characters under specific conditions.
Ultimate Warrior Challenges come with various rewards, with many offering ten Old Coins. To claim the War God’s Sash for collecting all 500 Old Coins, you’ll need to earn these coins through gameplay.
How To Utilize Old Coins
You can exchange Old Coins at the Shui Jing Retreat, located near the Inn in You Province at the northern edge of the map. Upon entering, select the Old Coins option to view a screen with all the rewards available and claim any rewards you’ve earned since your last visit.
There is no cost to spend Old Coins; you simply earn rewards by reaching specific milestones in your collection.
Typically, you would need to visit the Retreat to check the reward thresholds. To save time, you can refer to the chart below:
