Oni Masks have made their way into the Fortnite Chapter 6 Season 1 loot collection. Alongside the brand-new Typhoon Blade, these masks provide players with unique, supernatural-inspired abilities both in battle and beyond. The sixth chapter of Fortnite kicked off with Season 1: Hunters, introducing elements inspired by ancient Japan to the Fortnite island. The storyline for this season appears to center around the emergence of demons on the island, which may require players to engage in battles against demonic bosses from time to time.
The Battle Royale loot collection has experienced a significant makeover with the arrival of Chapter 6, featuring both new and previously released Fortnite weapons and items. Oni Masks are a fresh addition that players can either discover or earn, and when worn, they function as intended. These masks are categorized into two rarities: Epic and Mythic. Currently, there are two types available: the Fire Oni Mask and the Void Oni Mask. Below, you’ll find details on how to obtain each mask and utilize their special powers during Fortnite matches. As Fortnite: Hunters progresses, additional Oni Masks with various abilities may be introduced in future updates.
How To Obtain All Oni Masks
Take Your Chances or Face a Boss
In Fortnite Chapter 6 Season 1, Oni Masks can be either discovered or earned. Players can find Epic rarity (Purple) versions of the Fire Oni Mask and the Void Oni Mask in standard and Rare Chests scattered throughout the map, and occasionally as ground loot. There’s a significantly increased chance of obtaining them from the new Elemental Chests, which also provide Boons. In contrast, the Mythic Fire Oni Mask and Legendary Void Oni Mask can only be obtained by defeating two specific Fortnite bosses.
The Mythic Void Oni Mask is rewarded for defeating Night Rose, who resides at Demon’s Dojo located in the northeast section of the map.
The Mythic Fire Oni Mask can be collected by vanquishing Shogun X, who is trickier to locate. This season’s Shogun X is a wandering boss and will randomly appear across the map during a match. Upon being found and defeated, Shogun X will only drop a random Mythic weapon. After Storm Circle 4, he will reappear in his arena—a floating collection of islands akin to previous seasons’ Loot Island. Once you manage to defeat Shogun X in his arena, he will permanently stop respawning, and you’ll receive the Mythic Fire Oni Mask.
The only other way to acquire the Mythic versions of each Oni Mask is by defeating another player who has just eliminated one of the bosses and is carrying it.
Understanding Oni Masks
Unlock New Supernatural Abilities
The Void Oni Mask grants the ability to launch Void Projectiles and create a Void Tear that allows for teleportation to a specific location. This proves especially helpful in challenging combat situations, enabling players to quickly find cover for healing or escape the storm. Additionally, it can be utilized while carrying downed teammates, providing a strategic advantage for rescuing allies.
Keep in mind that the teleportation ability linked to the Void Tear has a range limitation. Should you stray too far from the Void Tear you create, it will vanish, and you will lose access to teleport to that location; you’ll then need to generate a new Void Tear to utilize this feature again.
The Fire Oni Mask solely functions as a weapon. This mask fires Fire Demon Mask projectiles that inflict 100 damage on enemies and structures. Mirroring the hitscan mechanics present in all weapons this season, Fire Demon Mask projectiles will automatically target foes and must be evaded. There’s an approximate 3.5-second cooldown period between each projectile fired.
Each Oni Mask in Fortnite Chapter 6 Season 1 is limited to a set number of uses before it disappears from your inventory. The Mythic versions boast a higher number of uses, offering more opportunities before the item is removed.
