Eevee is one of the most beloved Pokémon in Pokémon GO and the Pokémon franchise as a whole. Unlike many other Pokémon, Eevee can evolve into one of eight different forms: Jolteon, Vaporeon, Flareon, Sylveon, Espeon, Umbreon, Leafeon, or Glaceon. Each evolution transforms Eevee from a Normal type to one of the following: Electric, Water, Fire, Fairy, Psychic, Dark, Grass, or Ice type.
You can easily find Eevees roaming around in Pokémon GO, making them simple to catch. However, evolving each Eevee into every form can be quite challenging without some helpful tips. Fortunately, there’s a well-known method to ensure your Eevee evolves into the desired form.
How to Ensure a Specific Eevee Evolution
All Eevee Evolution Nicknames
When you receive an Eevee, using specific nicknames is crucial to achieving the desired evolution. Like in previous Pokémon games, Pokémon GO allows players to rename their Pokémon at any time. While most nicknames do not affect anything, Eevee is special. There are specific names that, when used, will trigger Eevee to evolve into one of its eight forms, or “Eeveelutions.”
To change your Eevee’s nickname, select the Eevee you want and tap the pencil icon next to its name. You can then enter your chosen nickname. This trick works for all eight Eeveelutions, but remember that each nickname can only be used once per type. It’s important to be strategic because if you waste a nickname on a low CP Eevee, your resulting Eeveelution will also be weak.
You can confirm that the naming trick will work by checking the silhouette of the evolution before you tap to evolve. Instead of a question mark, you should see the silhouette of the Eeveelution you aim to achieve after typing in the name and saving it.
The names for each Eeveelution are as follows:
Eevee Evolution |
Type |
Nickname |
---|---|---|
Jolteon |
Electric |
Sparky |
Flareon |
Fire |
Pyro |
Vaporeon |
Water |
Rainer |
Espeon |
Psychic |
Sakura |
Sylveon |
Fairy |
Kira |
Umbreon |
Dark |
Tamao |
Leafeon |
Grass |
Linnea |
Glaceon |
Ice |
Rea |
Keep in mind that using this trick won’t influence the shiny odds for Eevee or its evolutions in Pokémon GO. The only way to get a shiny Eeveelution is to evolve a shiny Eevee. If you succeed in evolving a shiny Eevee, the resulting Eeveelution will also be shiny, regardless of using this naming method.
How to Naturally Evolve Eevee
All Evolution Requirements
If you’ve already used the nickname trick but still want to evolve another Eevee into a specific form, you will need to follow the game’s standard requirements. Each of the eight evolutions can depend on Random Number Generation (RNG) or specific actions taken by the player.
Your Eevee has a 33% chance of evolving into Vaporeon, Flareon, or Jolteon. These three are the default evolutions and are chosen randomly; you cannot control which one you will get. To evolve Eevee into a different form, you must meet additional requirements.
For both Espeon and Umbreon, you need to walk 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) with Eevee as your buddy before you can evolve them. However, the timing of the evolution matters: if you want Espeon, evolve your buddy during the day; for Umbreon, evolve it during the night.
To evolve into Leafeon or Glaceon, you must use specific Lures—Mossy Lures for Leafeon and Glacial Lures for Glaceon. Insert the appropriate Lure into a nearby PokéStop, then evolve your Eevee while close to that PokéStop to unlock the desired type.
Finally, to get Sylveon, you must earn 70 hearts with the chosen Eevee by making it your buddy Pokémon. This ensures that you can achieve Sylveon in Pokémon GO, as its icon will replace the question mark, just like with the nicknames. Always track your progress before evolving your Eevee, and use the nickname trick wisely!
