Building a theme park in Planet Coaster 2 can be both fun and challenging as you juggle guest needs and aim for a five-star rating. The career mode features several engaging chapters, and obtaining platinum medals can be quite a lengthy task.
But what if you want to collaboratively manage a park with your friends and other players? If that’s your goal, Franchise Mode is ideal for you. This guide compiles everything you need to know about this mode, which varies significantly from others.
Understanding Franchise Mode
In Franchise Mode, your mission is to collaboratively create a global theme park with others. You can start your own franchise or join one already in progress. Though you won’t be editing the park at the same time, changes will need approval before implementation.
This mode allows you to oversee several parks with the aim of climbing the leaderboard and earning rewards. When you choose Franchise Mode from the main menu, you have three options:
- Select a franchise you own or are a member of. (Choose this option if you’re setting up a new franchise.)
- Join another player’s franchise by entering their franchise name or code in the search area. You can also use keywords to find franchises that interest you.
- Lastly, visit the ‘Requests’ section to view requests to join other franchises or check the requests from others wanting to join yours.
How to Start Your Own Franchise
To establish a new franchise, navigate to the ‘Your Franchises’ section and select ‘New Franchise.’ You’ll be prompted to fill in four fields:
Field |
Description |
---|---|
Franchise Name |
Provide a name for your franchise, ensuring it contains no profanity. |
Franchise Profile |
Select relevant tags for your franchise. This is crucial for connecting with others who share similar interests. You can specify gameplay style, interests, activity level, and whether your franchise is open to new members. |
Membership |
Choose if your franchise will only allow invited members or if anyone can request to join. |
Franchise Code |
This is a randomly generated code that you can keep or change. |
Once you’ve completed the fields for your new franchise, you’ll need to pick a starting location. This is a critical choice since you cannot change it later. Each location comes with its unique pros and cons.
Depending on your selection, your initial park currency and research points can differ. Additionally, each location offers a distinct environmental effect.
Some locations are average, providing balanced conditions, while others may offer more starting resources with lower visitor attraction rates. For example, in certain regions, guests may get hungry often, but be less interested in rides.
Before you finalize a starting location, think carefully about how it will impact both early and later stages of gameplay. Be sure to review all options. If it’s your first time in this mode and you prefer a laid-back experience, selecting a location with regular guest behavior is recommended.
Finally, the starting location will dictate how many parks you can oversee. After choosing, you’ll start by naming your first park.
Key Differences in Franchise Mode
Franchise Mode supports up to five players. While that’s the limit, you can choose to play solo if you wish. To save your changes, click the ‘Upload Changes’ button on the main menu and provide a message to inform other players of the updates.
If you select ‘Upload Changes,’ the latest modifications will be saved and shared with other players. However, choosing ‘Save Park’ won’t share the changes with others, and the park will become ‘Editing Locked,’ meaning other players cannot make alterations.
Once you establish the franchise, you can see all other parks you manage. If any changes are made by other members, a ‘Pending Edit’ icon will appear over the park. When uploading your changes, you can keep other franchise members updated with a message, letting them know about the revisions.
Keep in mind that each park has its individual Park Currency and Research Points.
If you’re the owner, you’ll gain access to the ‘Franchise Management’ menu. This menu contains:

As the owner, you can also manage parks within your franchise through the ‘Manage Park’ section.

Challenges and Leaderboard
From the Challenges section, you can check out parks from other franchises. By clicking on franchise names in the Leaderboard, you can delve deeper into their parks.
Challenges rank parks on a leaderboard based on different criteria, such as the park achieving the highest cash balance. You can work towards meeting these challenges to secure your park’s position on the leaderboard. Completing challenges will also earn you a variety of rewards.
