There are various forms of currency in Marvel Rivals, one of which is Unstable Molecules, a new resource introduced in Season 2.5. Previously, players could only acquire Unstable Molecules through Lattice exchanges, but Season 3 has expanded the ways to collect them. With many unique cosmetics now requiring Unstable Molecules, it’s a good idea to gather as many as possible while you play.
Initially, Unstable Molecules were limited to purchasing custom colors for specific character costumes in Marvel Rivals. Only a handful of characters had alternate color options for their skins, which made spending real money on them less appealing. I didn’t use any of my Lattice for Unstable Molecules in Season 2, but the introduction of new content in Season 3 has motivated me to start farming this currency more regularly.
What Are Unstable Molecules In Marvel Rivals?
In-Game Currency For Buying Alternate Costume Effects & Colors
Unstable Molecules represent the fourth major type of in-game currency in Marvel Rivals, comparable to blue Units or purple Chrono Tokens. It’s important to differentiate Molecules from one-time-use currencies, such as Costume Coins or Accessory Points, which are also new in Season 3. The addition of Molecules has sparked some criticism given the numerous currencies already present in the game, especially since they had limited uses in Season 2.
While Units and Lattice can be used to buy skin bundles, Chrono Tokens unlock Battle Pass rewards in Marvel Rivals. Meanwhile, Unstable Molecules and Accessory Points are the new currencies for cosmetic items related to costumes you’ve already purchased.
Unstable Molecules can be spent on alternate colors for existing character skins, but their use is limited to specific characters. In Season 3, you can also use Molecules to purchase Ultimate VFX, which upgrades your hero’s Ultimate ability animation.
Players collecting Unstable Molecules will notice that they operate differently than other currencies in the game. For instance, Units and Lattice can be exchanged on a 1:1 basis, while Chrono Tokens can convert into blue Units as well. Unfortunately, Unstable Molecules can’t be swapped with any of the other currencies you possess, meaning they must be earned separately.
How To Earn Unstable Molecules
Complete Event Objectives And Progress Through The Battle Pass
There are two main ways to begin collecting Unstable Molecules:
- Unlocking specific rewards in the Season 3 Battle Pass
- Participating in various events that provide Molecules as prizes
Several segments of the Season 3 Battle Pass grant Units, Lattice, and the new Unstable Molecules in exchange for Chrono Tokens. With the revamped progression systems this season, players can accumulate more Chrono Tokens, making this the easiest method to collect Molecules.
Daily missions were removed in Season 3, but Weekly Missions that reward Chrono Tokens remain until the mid-Season update, provided you’re active in completing them. Additionally, Seasonal Challenges can be repeated, lasting throughout the Season and providing more opportunities to earn Tokens.
In-game events are anticipated to reward Unstable Molecules in Season 3, though the exact number of events is not yet known. Given that this season is shorter than previous ones, there may be a flurry of events occurring simultaneously, allowing players varied opportunities to obtain Molecules. However, there’s also a chance these events will offer other currencies, particularly Units, which have commonly been available this way in the past.
Best Farming Methods For Unstable Molecules
Grind For Enough Tokens To Get Them All At Once
The most effective method for farming Unstable Molecules is to capitalize on those found in the Season 3 Battle Pass. There are at least 500 Unstable Molecules available in the Season 3 Battle Pass, with some rewards offered for free and others contingent on purchasing the Luxury version. By opting for the Luxury Battle Pass at the cost of 990 Lattice, players gain immediate access to a wealth of Molecules to use as they wish.
In my experience, the best strategy to acquire Unstable Molecules in Season 3 is to actively engage in events and complete missions for Chrono Tokens. The Tokens allow progression through the Battle Pass, uncovering the sections that feature Unstable Molecules. Since you can earn 100 Unstable Molecules for every 200 Chrono Tokens spent, it’s possible to gather a substantial amount quickly.
Your ability to farm Unstable Molecules will depend on how future events are structured. Based on previous events, it’s reasonable to expect to farm between 100 and 400 Molecules per event, assuming you complete its associated missions by participating in matches. These challenges will follow a seasonal format, often requiring players to utilize characters they may not typically play to meet different objectives.
Although accumulating this new currency might not be as swift as gathering Chrono Tokens, the variety of ongoing events should ensure a steady influx. Nevertheless, the Season 3 Battle Pass boasts the highest number of Unstable Molecules available for farming, so aim to collect as many as possible for future cosmetic purchases.
