The popular PS5 feature has been out of commission for the past two weeks both on the console and through the PS App, and Sony hasn’t acknowledged the problem. The company temporarily disabled the “Recently Played” section earlier this month to resolve a glitch in the PS Store. Although that feature was restored shortly after, it’s been malfunctioning ever since.
On June 15, a bug related to the game library caused a temporary outage of the “Recently Played” feature. After the glitch, players began seeing inappropriate games in their libraries and the Recently Played section that they never purchased. Sony took down the feature to address the issue, but it seems something else was inadvertently broken in the process.
It looks like PSN’s clock has been incorrectly set back by about a month, causing all games played since that time to disappear or not show up in the Recently Played list. From what I’ve seen, this issue impacts both physical and digital games, with most reports coming from players using discs.
Many, including myself, rely on the Recently Played feature—especially via the PS App—to track game progress and trophies. While there are alternative ways to check this information, the Recently Played section was a quick and easy solution.
Because of this problem, players can no longer see their campaign completion status in the PS App. On the PS5, the widget in the Welcome Hub displaying recently played games no longer functions, so players now have to hover over game tiles to get a brief progress overview.
Though some argue this isn’t a major issue, the numerous complaints over the past two weeks suggest many users, myself included, frequently use the Recently Played section. On the PlayStation subreddit alone, there have been at least a dozen threads discussing the problem just in the last day.
It’s definitely frustrating to have had this feature broken for so long.
Reaching out to Sony hasn’t helped, as the company tends to stay silent on these matters. There’s no estimated time for a fix, so we’ll just have to wait patiently.
