Pokémon Legends: Z-A features several side quests that are mostly optional throughout the main story. One of these is Side Quest #27, called “Restored From A Fossil.” In this quest, a researcher named Reg asks you on the second floor of the Pokémon Research Lab to bring him either a Sail Fossil or a Jaw Fossil for restoration.

This side quest is pretty simple. Reg will give you the 20,000 Poké Dollars needed to buy whichever fossil you choose. However, knowing which Pokémon each fossil yields can be helpful, especially if you’re low on money and need to choose carefully.

Where To Find the Sail Fossil, Jaw Fossil, and Old Amber

The fossils and old amber can be purchased at the Stone Emporium. You can get there easily by walking from the Pokémon Research Lab or by fast traveling to the Pokémon Center on Vernal Avenue and heading south from there. The store offers these items:

  • Sail Fossil: 20,000 Poké Dollars
  • Jaw Fossil: 20,000 Poké Dollars
  • Old Amber: 30,000 Poké Dollars

If you have enough money, you can buy all three and take them back to Reg. Restoring Old Amber will earn you an Aerodactyl, just like in previous games. If money is tight, pick between the Sail Fossil or the Jaw Fossil to complete the quest.

Which Pokémon Come From the Sail Fossil and Jaw Fossil?

Deciding whether to go with the Sail Fossil or the Jaw Fossil depends on what you want. You can always come back later to restore the other one, so you’re not missing out. If you want to get Amaura, choose the Sail Fossil. Restoring the Jaw Fossil will give you a Tyrunt.

When Reg hands over the Pokémon after restoration, you’ll have completed Side Quest #27. Your rewards include 2,500 dollars, a Hard Stone, and 10 Kelpsy Berries. Since you can return later to get the other fossil, pick whichever Pokémon you’d prefer first — Tyrunt or Amaura. If you have the money, you can buy all the fossils and Old Amber now to restore them all at once. Overall, it’s a simple way to add fossil Pokémon to your team.
