If you’ve been exploring the various castles and forts in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, you likely know the drill by now. Each location is guarded by a set number of Samurai Daisho that you need to defeat to fully clear the area. Once you’ve taken them down, you’ll gain access to that region’s Legendary Chest.
These Legendary Chests are packed with unique weapons and armor, catering to both Yasuke and Naoe. Regardless of your chosen character, the rewards waiting for you at these locations will prove invaluable, especially when facing the game’s toughest bosses. We’ll guide you through stealthily clearing each area with Naoe and show you how to eliminate the four Samurai.
Where Is Uda Matsuyama Castle?
The Uda Matsuyama Castle is located in the northeast part of Yamato, nestled in the mountains. The closest fast travel point, besides the one located within the castle, can be found at Uda Town Kakurega, just southwest of the castle.
You will find a fast-travel point inside the castle after you complete it, but it won’t be accessible right away.
This castle is also part of the quest ‘The Lost Envoys’ as you seek out The Wise of the Shinbakufu, so you might want to wait until that quest to explore it.
When you take on this quest, you’ll learn that the best approach is from the south, so plan accordingly.
How To Find & Assassinate The First Daisho
The envoy hints that the southern wall has been weakened, which you should exploit. Enter the castle using the large beams by the south wall and climb onto the roof of the building in the courtyard.
Upon entering the southwestern part of the castle, you will encounter the first Samurai Daisho patrolling between some structures, flanked by three guards. Here’s how to eliminate him:
- Take out the guard on the edge to the south, and observe the movement of the Daisho.
- Next, eliminate the nearest guard.
- Then, quickly take out the middle guard as the Daisho walks away from your position toward the north.
- With the other guards dispatched, you can silently finish off the first Samurai Daisho.
Alternatively, you can wait for the Daisho to wander to a secluded area away from the guards and then strike from above.
This method takes a bit more time but is much safer.
How To Find & Assassinate The Second Daisho
To find the second Samurai Daisho, head straight north along the northernmost row of buildings near the water.
This Daisho stands in a courtyard, where a guard is patrolling while facing outward. There’s another guard up the path towards the north, but he seems distracted.
The only possible witness is a worker who occasionally walks through the area—make sure to wait for him to pass.
Once the area is clear, jump down to assassinate the second Samurai Daisho and quickly return to the roof for easier access to the third and fourth Daisho.
How To Find & Assassinate The Third Daisho
After taking down the second Daisho, shift your focus southward to locate the third and fourth Samurai Daisho near the castle’s central courtyard with the large tower. Observe the surroundings before moving in.
The third Samurai Daisho is all alone in a small training courtyard, making him the easiest target of the four. Just be mindful of a worker who wanders through the area. Climb to the roof over the Daisho, jump down, and finish him off, leaving just one more.
The third Daisho has a lot of health, so be prepared for a brief fight if you can’t take him down in one hit.
How To Find & Assassinate The Fourth Daisho
The fourth Daisho is positioned slightly southeast from the large tower and presents a unique challenge.
While the courtyard is guarded, all the guards are spread apart except for the fourth Samurai Daisho and one guard right next to him. Sneak to the corner of the building directly above the Daisho and his guard.
Use Eagle Vision to identify your targets, as tree cover can sometimes obstruct your view.
Equip a tanto and unlock the skill for double assassinations to eliminate both targets at once. Afterward, climb back up to the building you jumped from and return to the Legendary Chest in the main tower for your reward.
What Rewards Do You Get From Uda Matsuyama Castle?
Once you successfully defeat all four Samurai Daisho, you can access the Legendary Chest located in the large tower in the castle’s southeastern area. Approach the red chest on the main floor to receive:
- 3,000 Exp
- An Engraving
- Legendary Onna-musha Kosode Legendary Light Armor for Naoe
Despite the many enemies in this region, the rewards from Uda Matsuyama Castle are quite valuable, making the effort well worth it.
Even if you don’t collect all the side loot, you’ll leave with pockets full of goodies and new gear to try out.

- In the far southeast corner, there’s a small guard tower holding a chest with crafting materials and a ration container.
Legendary Chest
After taking down all four Samurai Daisho, you can unlock the Legendary Chest in the large tower located in the southeastern section of the castle. Approach the red chest on the main floor and you will receive:
