Marvel Rivals offers a variety of modes designed to enhance your gameplay experience with heroes and villains. One notable mode is Doom Match, which provides a unique spin on the traditional Free-for-all format found in other games.
If you’re looking for a break from stressful objectives or competitive rankings, Doom Match serves as a laid-back option. Before jumping in, however, it’s helpful to understand the specifics of this mode.
Overview of Doom Match Mode and Winning Strategies
At its essence, Doom Match is a Free-for-all featuring you and 11 other players. Players can choose any hero they want, and the match concludes after 16 eliminations are achieved or when the ten-minute timer runs out.
To win, you need to finish in the top half based on your points when the timer hits zero, so achieving 16 kills isn’t necessary to secure a victory. You earn one point for each elimination and can check your rank on the scoreboard, which is divided into two groups.
Note that the abilities Dr. Strange’s Pentagram of Farallah and Invisible Woman’s Invisible Boundary are not usable in this mode.
The battleground for Doom Match is the Sanctum Sanctorum, which belongs to the ‘Empire of Eternal Night’ series. This map encourages strategic gameplay with its unique layout and teleportation features.
Doom Match Tips and Tricks
Utilizing teleportation zones (the purple rift areas) and portals can significantly enhance your chances of winning. Since you can shoot through portals, they offer excellent opportunities to ambush unsuspecting enemies.
Teleport areas allow you to gain the high ground by interacting with them, which is especially beneficial if you’re not using heroes like Iron Man.
On the map’s northwest side, near the outer section of the main building, there’s a teleport rift close to a portal. This pathway leads to the Sanctum’s roof, making it perfect for long-range fighters seeking a strategic advantage.
Keep in mind that eliminations count as final hits in this mode. Engaging in battles where two or more players are already clashing is a solid strategy for boosting your score and remaining among the top players.
Don’t overlook health pickups in Doom Match. Since you won’t receive healing from teammates, memorizing their locations can be crucial. Frequent combat occurs in the alley on the map’s north side, so avoid this area if you’re low on health.
There’s no self-healing unless it comes from your hero’s abilities, making effective use of health pickups vital to your success.
Using high vantage points in Sanctum can be advantageous to score early hits on enemies as they don’t always look above. This provides a good opportunity to strike first.
Maximizing cover, staying mobile, and effectively using teleports will help you secure victories in this Free-for-all mode.
Hero Advice
In Doom Match, opting for lower-difficulty heroes (one to two-star) is often a winning tactic, unless you’re particularly skilled with a higher-ranked character.
This category boasts many solid options, with Luna Snow being highly recommended for her versatility. Her Ice Arts ability works effectively at longer ranges and allows for impressive shots down the map’s long corridors, plus she can quickly escape if trouble arises.
Luna’s ultimate, Fate of Both Worlds, is particularly useful when surrounded or low on health, essentially making you invulnerable. Mantis also excels with her similar ability.
Additionally, her Absolute Zero ability can freeze foes, facilitating a quick getaway or a final blow.
Heroes like Iron Man and Scarlet Witch also excel in this mode. Iron Man can leverage his ability to soar above the battlefield, raining down fire on opponents below. His mobility is a key advantage, allowing for quick escapes through portals.
Scarlet Witch excels at dodging damage using her Mystic Projection ability, especially in the narrow spaces of the Sanctum. She’s also a damage powerhouse when used properly.
As a warning, when using Mystic Projection, make sure to head towards a health pickup area or a portal immediately if you’re low on health, as staying too close to enemies can end poorly.
