Typhon, known as the Father of All Monsters, appears as the final boss on the surface in Hades 2, and he may be as large as Olympus itself. After making your way through the shadowy Summit, you’ll face Typhon, so it’s important to be prepared.

Once you reach the Summit, you’ll encounter new enemies and obstacles. This section covers the buildup to the fight with Typhon, what to expect during the battle, and tips on how to take down Melinoe’s most dangerous foe yet.

Updated on December 25th, 2025, by Kaitlyn Peterson: This update reflects changes made to the boss fight after the 1.0 release.

Completing the Summit

The last area on the surface path is the Summit, which opens after defeating Prometheus. Unlike Olympus, where everything gleamed with gold and white, the Summit is dark with swirling tendrils and living stone. Enemies here are often small and quick, though some larger monsters can deal heavy damage and temporarily stun Melinoe if they land hits.

Periodically, Typhon’s tail slams into the ground, destroying both his offspring and you if caught in the impact zone. It leaves a dark, blinking circle telegraphing where it will land, but this can be easy to miss if you’re not attentive or overwhelmed by enemies.

Also roaming the Summit are three new minibosses: Typhon’s children, the Spawn of Typhon and Twins of Typhon, and his spiny tail, the Tail of Typhon.

Typhon’s Attacks

The fight takes place at the very top of the Summit on a small platform, with only Typhon’s head visible due to his enormous size, and he has no health bar. Melinoe mentions that she can’t sense his life force, and there’s no visual indication of how much damage he has taken or how much health remains.

Heavy Attacks

Typhon’s most dangerous moves include a slam and a whip-like tongue attack. His slam involves driving his head into the ground, stunning Melinoe briefly. He signals this by lifting his head slightly and sparking red around his face and horns. The warning is quick, so quick reactions are necessary. The area affected by the slam isn’t very large, so staying clear of directly beneath Typhon keeps you safe.

The other major attack is his long, red whip, which covers most of the arena. He telegraphs it by pulling back his tongue and drawing it to one side. This attack packs a punch and deals significant damage. You can avoid it by standing directly underneath Typhon—the part of the whip that does harm is the extended, magic part, not his actual tongue.

Quick tip: Move swiftly to dodge either the slam or the whip; hesitation can leave you vulnerable to both.

Lesser Attacks

Typhon also fires projectiles and summons whirlwinds against Melinoe. His projectile attack involves floating red eyes circling his head, which he shoots downward. These projectiles can deal damage both when first hitting the ground and after they split and ricochet. They’re slow-moving, so moving to the corners of the arena can help keep most of them at bay.

The whirlwinds are similar to those in previous battles with Harpies, taking up space, pushing players around, and dealing damage. Typhon roars and breathes these whirlwinds from his mouth, which can feel overwhelming but are manageable with good movement.

Environmental Hazards

A storm rages across the Summit, with powerful winds buffeting the battlefield. Standing still during these gusts will push Melinoe away from Typhon and into other hazards. Running normally slows down during the wind, but dashing and sprinting help you regain ground more quickly. You won’t move during Typhon’s attack animations, but once they finish, you’ll need to sprint back into position.

Additionally, Typhon’s tail can appear at any time, slamming into the ground to create a shockwave. This tail is indestructible and can only be avoided. It usually appears as a quick shadow darting across the field, giving only two or three seconds’ warning before impact.

Summoning Spawn

Typhon occasionally retreats into the storm, leaving his children to fight Melinoe alone. During these moments, you cannot damage Typhon himself. Instead, he spits red eggs onto the ground—aim to destroy as many as possible within about ten seconds before they hatch.

Initially, the eggs produce easier enemies like Polyps, but as the fight progresses, more dangerous monsters hatch from them. Some hatchlings have armor and are tougher to kill, especially the smaller Spawn of Typhon minibosses or the more aggressive, armored monsters.

Strategy tip: Focus fire on one or two eggs at a time, as it’s unlikely to destroy all before they hatch. Priority targets like the armored spawn can make the fight more manageable.

Spores or whip-like spines sometimes grow and vanish from the floor, but these are generally minor nuisances rather than threats.

The Second Phase

After dealing some damage, Zeus arrives briefly to aid Melinoe, unleashing lightning bolts that hit Typhon. This strikes him with enough force to knock him out temporarily, rendering him vulnerable to attack. Use this window to deal as much damage as possible—he’ll only stay down for a few seconds.

Following this, the fight speeds up. Typhon moves faster, and enemies become stronger. His slam attack reaches a larger area, and his spawn are tougher. Despite appearing defeated, Typhon isn’t truly finished — he will return over multiple nights, dropping a Void Lens each time. This item is needed to craft the Disintegration of Monstrosity spell, which is essential for defeating him in the main story.

Note: To truly defeat Typhon permanently, you must complete multiple surface and underworld runs, gathering items needed for the necessary incantations during these boss encounters.

Fight Strategy

In this fight, weapons should be chosen based on what you’re most comfortable with. While some tools are more effective, sticking to your main weapon is best for consistent performance. Equipping Trinkets like Luckier Tooth or Engrave Pin can help keep Melinoe alive longer, increasing your chances of success.

For hexes, Moon Water (which allows healing) and Phase Shift (which slows down the fight) are recommended. As for Boons, prioritize those from Hephaestus for powerful blasts and Hestia for continuous burns to inflict extra damage.

Tip: Remember, Typhon is huge but stationary and doesn’t move much, so focus on dodging his big attacks and timing your damage windows between his assaults.

If you want an extra challenge, you can attempt Typhon’s Unrivaled fight through the Vow of Rivals mode, which adds a third phase. This is optional and not necessary for the main story.
