Honkai: Star Rail - Pre-Farm Guide for Cipher Ascension & Traces
ADVERTISEMENT

You can begin collecting materials for Cipher in Honkai: Star Rail to level her up and enhance her Traces as soon as you unlock her. Cipher is a 5-star Quantum character aligned with the Path of Nihility. She was introduced in Version 3.3’s Phase 2 banners and can function as either a sub-DPS or a main DPS, depending on her team composition. The key element of Cipher’s abilities is to increase enemy damage vulnerability while delivering significant damage herself.

Cipher’s Talent marks the enemy with the highest Max HP as a Patron. She can also designate a Patron through her Skill and Ultimate. When allies attack the Patron, Cipher executes a follow-up attack that inflicts damage. She tracks the non-True DMG dealt to the Patron. With her Ultimate, Cipher deals Quantum DMG to the target, then inflicts True DMG based on the amount recorded by her Talent. Her Skill allows her to weaken enemies, reducing their damage output while enhancing her own attack power.

All Cipher Materials in Honkai: Star Rail 3.3 Have Leaked

Only One Item Can’t Be Pre-Farmed Before Version 3.3

Before maximizing Cipher’s combat abilities, you’ll need to gather her materials. While leaks about Cipher’s materials have circulated, fresh updates indicate that most can be collected ahead of time. This information was shared on her character page at Honey Hunter World, detailing gameplay functions, abilities, Traces, and Eidolon levels.

According to the leak, the majority of items can be pre-farmed before Version 3.3, where Cipher will debut. Most of these items are linked to Amphoreus, with only one exception that predates The Eternal Land from Version 3.0. HoYoverse has confirmed that while many materials can be collected in advance, a new item tied to a weekly boss won’t be available until the release of Version 3.3. However, you can farm this new material before Cipher is officially added in the Phase 2 banners.

Ascension Materials to Pre-Farm for Cipher in Honkai: Star Rail

Tackle Black Tide Creatures on Amphoreus

You’ll need Ethereal Omen, Echoing Wail, and Eternal Lament as you prepare for Cipher’s Ascension. These essentials drop from Black Tide Creatures on various Amphoreus maps like Murmuring Woods and Dragonbone City. To maximize Ethereal Omen farming, take on Calyx (Golden) tasks on Amphoreus, where drops are guaranteed and can be accumulated quickly. Remember to use the Omni-Synthesizer to convert lower-tier items into higher-quality ones as Cipher’s material requirements increase.

The table below lists all of Cipher’s Ascension materials in Honkai: Star Rail by level:

Total Materials

  • 15x Ethereal Omen
  • 15x Echoing Wail
  • 15x Eternal Lament
  • 65x Darkveil Moonlight
  • 308,000x Credits

Along with Ethereal Omen, Echoing Wail, and Eternal Lament, you’ll need Darkveil Moonlight for Cipher’s Ascension. This material is harvested at the Stagnant Shadow: Shape of Gelidmoon located in the Murmuring Woods map within the Grove of Epiphany on Amphoreus. Darkveil Moonlight is also required for Tribbie and Castorice, both of whom can also deal Quantum DMG.

Due to the quantity required, you may need to farm this activity multiple times. Keep track to avoid exceeding the needed 65 copies, allowing you to reserve your Trailblaze Power for additional farming efforts.

You’ll also need 308,000 Credits for Cipher’s Ascension, plus an extra 508,000 Credits to boost her with Character EXP materials. Although this isn’t the most costly requirement for maxing out, if you need more Credits, tackle Calyx (Golden): Bud of Treasures on Amphoreus. This will help you gather the necessary Credits while also farming Ethereal Omen for Cipher’s Ascension in Honkai: Star Rail.

Trace Materials to Pre-Farm for Cipher in Honkai: Star Rail

Daythunder Anamnesis Requires Defeating Aquila in the Echo of War

Once you’ve completed all Ascension stages and maxed out Cipher’s level, you can begin leveling her abilities and unlocking her Traces. Similar to her Ascension process, leveling Cipher’s Traces requires Ethereal Omen, Echoing Wail, and Eternal Lament, but in larger amounts. In addition to defeating Black Tide Creatures and completing Calyx (Golden) activities on Amphoreus, these items can be acquired from the Simulated Universe, Divergent Universe, and Assignments. You can also buy up to 40 Ethereal Omen from the Embers Exchange shop each month.

The table below outlines all the materials necessary to max out all of Cipher’s Traces in Honkai: Star Rail:

Cipher Trace Materials in Honkai: Star Rail

Ethereal Omen

Echoing Wail

Eternal Lament

Fiery Spirit

Starfire Essence

Heaven Incinerator

Daythunder Anamnesis

Tracks of Destiny

Credits

In addition to those previously mentioned, Cipher’s Trace-leveling process will require Fiery Spirit, Starfire Essence, and Heaven Incinerator. These Nihility-exclusive materials can be farmed at the Calyx (Crimson): Bud of Nihility activity located within the Alchemy Commission map on the Xianzhou Luofu. Additionally, you can purchase Fiery Spirit and Starfire Essence from Embers Exchange monthly. For context, Fiery Spirit, Starfire Essence, and Heaven Incinerator were previously required for Fugue, the last Nihility character before Cipher’s introduction.

You’ll need a significant number of these Nihility materials, so be prepared to spend several days farming for them. Don’t worry if it feels like you’re accumulating them slowly; you may need to revisit Calyx frequently.

HoYoverse has confirmed that Cipher’s Trace-leveling requires a new weekly boss material known as Daythunder Anamnesis. This material can be farmed by defeating Aquila in the Echo of War: Glance of Twilight activity. While it can’t be pre-farmed, you can start collecting it right after the patch goes live, leading up to Cipher’s release in the Phase 2 banners for Honkai: Star Rail 3.3. Higher Trace levels will also necessitate Tracks of Destiny, obtainable through the Divergent Universe, limited-time events, and reputation systems.

Finally, to fully unlock and upgrade all of Cipher’s Traces, you’ll need three million Credits. As mentioned earlier, farming is best done through Calyx (Golden): Bud of Treasures activities, particularly on Amphoreus to optimize your efforts. Most of Cipher’s materials can be gathered in advance, and players who pre-farmed previously will only need to focus on the new weekly boss material from Honkai: Star Rail 3.3.
