Pokemon Go is welcoming 2025 with its annual New Year’s Event, which will introduce a mix of new and returning features alongside familiar bonuses. Like past celebrations, the 2025 New Year’s Event will showcase a variety of costumed Pokemon, giving you plenty of chances to catch them.
This year’s New Year’s Event will take place over a three-day period, starting from Monday, December 30, 2024, at 10 AM local time, to Wednesday, January 1, 2025, at 8 PM local time. Below, you’ll find a thorough guide for this event that includes tips and suggestions to help you enjoy this limited-time experience to the fullest.
Event Bonus
This year’s New Year’s Event features one primary bonus, available to all participants during the event. During this event, you will earn 2,025 XP every time you catch a Pokemon with an Excellent Throw.
Utilizing a Lucky Egg will help boost your XP earnings during this event.
This item will double your XP for 30 minutes.
Event Wild Encounter Pokemon
During this event, you can expect to see three specially themed Pokemon in the wild, all wearing festive costumes. Additionally, these three Pokemon will have higher chances of being Shiny when encountered.
The event-themed Pokemon include:
- Hoothoot in a New Year’s outfit
- Jigglypuff wearing a ribbon
- Wurmple in a party hat
Event Raid Pokemon
You can also look forward to costumed Pokemon featured in One-Star and Three-Star Raids. Much like the wild encounter Pokemon, these Raid Pokemon will also have higher chances of being Shiny once you defeat them in battle.

Event Research
Free Timed Research
All participants will have access to Timed Research at no cost. Completing these tasks will grant you encounters with event-themed Pokemon and Stardust.
Paid Timed Research
For a fee of $2.00 USD, you can also purchase additional Timed Research through the Pokemon Go in-game store. Completing this research will provide you with:
- 2,025 Stardust
- Three Lucky Eggs
- Three Premium Battle Passes
- Encounters with event-themed Pokemon
Event Field Research Tasks
You will also find Event Field Research Tasks available at various PokeStops. Completing these tasks will lead to encounters with different event-themed Pokemon.
