Fortnite continues to embrace guest characters from the gaming world, and now the iconic rivals, Sub-Zero and Scorpion from Mortal Kombat, have joined the fray. Both characters arrive with their own quests and unique skins—one available through quests and the other via a purchase. Their introduction also brings a set of themed tasks revolving around the new "Kombat Kit" weapons, alongside some hidden surprises for fans of the Mortal Kombat franchise.
The latest set of quests, introduced in Chapter 6: Season 2 as part of the Mortal Kombat series, is titled Balance of Power and is centered around Raiden, a classic character in the franchise. While many of the tasks will feel familiar to seasoned players familiar with the Kombat Kits, there are a few challenges that may catch some players off guard.
How to Complete Stage 1 of the Balance of Power Mortal Kombat Quest
Execute a Full Combo on an Opponent Using a Kombat Kit
To complete this quest, players will need to acquire a Kombat Kit and use it to perform a full combo on an opponent (activated with the main attack button). Kombat Kits can be found scattered across the map in chests and as random drops. Notably, you can also pick them up from the ground in the Living Forest, located just southwest of Flooded Frogs, at the beginning of a match.
Once you have a Kombat Kit, aim at an enemy target and keep tapping the primary fire button until the complete combo lands. If the quest doesn’t register, you may need to restart the combo. Remember that the combo is different from the "Signature Move," which can be triggered using the alternate fire button. Sub-Zero’s signature move is an ice slide, propelling him forward to attack, while Scorpion’s is a spear that drags enemies closer.
How to Complete Stage 2 of the Mortal Kombat Quests in Fortnite
Land in the Living Forest Right at Match Start
While this quest is relatively straightforward, knowing where to land is crucial. The Living Forest is located in the northwest part of the main map, slightly southwest of Flooded Frogs, identifiable by the distinctive trees with faces.
To complete this quest, simply land in the Living Forest after jumping from the Battle Bus. You can tackle this quest first and use the Kombat Kits you find there to finish the other tasks. Though it may not be the most ideal landing spot compared to others, it serves well in fulfilling the Balance of Power objectives.
How to Complete Stage 3 of the Balance of Power
Eliminate Players at the Shogun’s Arena
This quest is the most challenging, as you’ll wait for the Shogun’s Arena to spawn and must eliminate other players (not just NPCs). You can complete this quest over several matches, but it’s best to gear up and take out opponents efficiently.
The Shogun’s Arena will appear in the center of the map after the fourth storm circle closes. This timing means you may need to hold off on aggressive tactics until it appears. Equip long-range weapons to take down opponents across the floating islands that make up the Shogun’s Arena.
How to Complete Stage 4 of the Balance of Power Mortal Kombat Quest
Survive While Carrying a Kombat Kit
In this quest, you simply need to outlast 100 players while having a Kombat Kit in your inventory. You don’t need to use the kit or secure any eliminations with it—just possessing it while the matches go on is enough.
One effective strategy is to head straight to the Living Forest at the beginning of the match to take advantage of early player eliminations. However, be cautious, as it can become a popular landing zone, so you’ll need to land at the center, grab a Kombat Kit quickly, or approach from the edges with a weapon ready.
How to Complete Stage 5 of the Balance of Power
Hit an Opponent with a Kombat Kit Signature Move Within 5 Seconds
For this task, you’ll need to use your Kombat Kit combo and then follow up quickly with your character’s signature move—all within five seconds. Essentially, perform your primary attack, then use your secondary attack.
You can achieve this against any opponent, even if you summon Scorpion in the Living Forest. Plan to land in the Living Forest, summon Scorpion, and complete your combo before executing your signature move. You can fulfill the quest with either Sub-Zero or Scorpion’s Kombat Kit.
How to Complete Stage 6 of the Balance of Power
Eliminate an Opponent Using Both Kombat Kits
For this quest, you’ll need to have both Sub-Zero and Scorpion’s Kombat Kits at the same time. You don’t face a strict time limit, but you will need to think on your feet and successfully use both Kits to eliminate an opponent before someone else gets the kill or you’re taken out.
The Living Forest remains the prime location to gather both Kombat Kits. If you summon Scorpion, you can even wrap up this final quest stage there, completing the Balance of Power questline in Fortnite.
