Freedom Wars Remastered takes place in a bleak future where the last remaining people fight against each other to gather the planet’s limited resources. Combat is a daily occurrence, so you’ll need to constantly upgrade your arsenal if you want to stay alive.
As you complete missions, you’ll naturally acquire various weapons, but they won’t always suit your needs. Some might be underpowered or lack the elemental traits you want. Luckily, you have the ability to modify these weapons if you have the right tools and materials.
How to Modify Weapons
To start modifying weapons, you’ll first need to access the weapon development facility. This will happen early in the game once you purchase the Grade 1 Weapon Development Facility Permit. After that, you can enter the Facility Management menu from the Personal Responsibility Portal to start customizing your weapons.
How to Upgrade Weapons
The most straightforward way to boost a weapon’s performance is to level it up. By visiting the Upgrade Weapons menu, you can increase a weapon’s basic stats. These improvements impact various features like attack strength, critical hit chances, and range.
Once you choose a weapon for an upgrade, the game will inform you about the necessary resources and how many Entitlement Points you’ll need. If you’re ready to proceed, you’ll see what stats will improve after the upgrade. Confirm your decision, and you’ll receive your enhanced weapon.
Before paying for an upgrade, you can ask for citizen support by pressing Triangle/X/Y. If you’ve rescued citizens with excellent facility management skills, you might get discounts on your weapon enhancements.
Upgrading weapons is the most effective way to make them stronger. However, in the early game, you may find it challenging to gather the necessary resources for leveling up. Thus, modules provide a useful alternative while you build your stockpile for bigger investments.
How to Craft Modules
Modules are small stat boosts that can enhance your weapons. You’ll gain quite a few for completing missions and can attach them to your weapons in the loadout menu. As you progress further, you’ll unlock the ability to craft specific modules you want.
Once you acquire the Grade 2 Weapon Development Facility Permit, you can start making modules. Similar to upgrades, you’ll need to exchange some resources and Entitlement Points to create your chosen module.
You can only attach as many modules as your weapon has available slots, but you can add more by using Entitlement Points. The cost in Points will depend on the Facility Manager Aptitude of the citizen you choose to assist with the task.
If you have a favorite module, you can try to fuse multiple ones together to create a stronger version with better effects. Keep in mind that this process might fail, but your chances of success improve based on the number of modules you’re fusing and which citizen is helping you.
Modules are excellent for quick weapon enhancements and can help tailor your playstyle, such as increasing damage to a particular enemy weak point or enhancing a firearm’s range. While modules are useful, upgrades will become essential as you face tougher enemies later in the game, so focus on making your weapons fundamentally stronger.
How to Add Elements to Weapons
Once you obtain the Grade 3 Weapon Development Facility Permit, you can add elemental powers to your weapons. The game features four elements, each capable of countering another (fire beats ice, ice beats electricity, electricity beats Will’O, and Will’O beats fire). Knowing this can help you exploit enemy weaknesses for easier victories.
To give your weapon elemental traits, you can either take the abilities from a donor weapon or use materials. Using a donor weapon will yield minor stat adjustments and cost fewer points, while using materials typically provides more significant improvements at a higher price.
Elements are key to creating the ideal build. While they can optimize your loadout for specific encounters, they shouldn’t overshadow the importance of upgrades and modules, which are generally effective in a wider range of situations.
