At the conclusion of the side quest titled Regrets of the Dread Wolf in Dragon Age: The Veilguard, Rook has the opportunity to confront Mythal in an effort to gain her support. After Rook and the team uncover all six Wolf Statuettes and witness the memories of Solas, they consult Morrigan about their findings. She will recommend pursuing Mythal’s Essence, suggesting that the Elven deity might be persuaded to join their fight against the other gods.
Similar to previous Dragon Age titles, players seeking Mythal’s Essence in Dragon Age: The Veilguard must navigate dialogue choices to convince the goddess that Rook and their mission merit her assistance. Failing this persuasion will lead to a challenging battle instead. Acquiring Mythal’s Essence can be crucial in the late game, as it aids in defeating a formidable boss, grants a boon before facing the gods, and can even alter the game’s ending.
How to Gain Mythal’s Support in Dragon Age: The Veilguard
Convince or Confront a Deity
There are essentially three methods to acquire Mythal’s Essence in Dragon Age: The Veilguard. The most straightforward yet least recommended approach involves directly engaging her in battle. During the initial conversation, Rook can select the dialogue option, "You’re not going to help us," (or "Die, false god," if chosen as an elf) to initiate the confrontation immediately. Alternatively, this can be done at any other time in the conversation by opting for "Forget it. I’ll fight you."
Should Rook choose to fight, Mythal becomes a Level 45 High Dragon, and her defeat can be quite difficult if players aren’t adequately prepared. Rewards for successfully taking her down include Mythal’s Essence, experience points, 300 Lords of Fortune Strength, a valuable Dragon Bone, a Dragonfire Catalyst (a legendary material), and 10 Etheric Remnants.
However, two other ways exist to persuade Mythal to aid Rook without resorting to violence. First, completing Bellara’s companion quests earlier will unlock the dialogue option, "We stopped Anaris," as part of the argument "We must stop the gods." Selecting this line will immediately convince Mythal to assist the team. If that option isn’t available, players must skillfully choose the right responses during conversation to win her over. Rook can present a case using four arguments:
- We must stop the blight.
- We must stop the gods.
- We are worthy.
- Solas is assisting me.
Players can select responses in any order, but ultimately, they must choose the most compelling dialogue showing conviction in at least three topics to earn Mythal’s support. The table below breaks down each topic with the best, acceptable, and inadequate responses.
Dialogue | We must stop the blight. | We must stop the gods. | We are worthy. | Solas is helping me. |
---|---|---|---|---|
Best Response | You stood against it. | They wronged you. | Building a safe place. | Respected him. |
Acceptable Response | People will die. | Put the blight aside? | Fighting monsters. | Forgotten him. |
Bad Response | The blight is your fault. | We need no gods. | I’m following your example. | I’m sorry that happened. |
It’s essential to pick only two acceptable responses, meaning players need to engage with all four arguments, ensuring they choose the best response for the other two to gain Mythal’s favor without initiating combat.
Once Rook successfully convinces Mythal, she will offer a statuette representing the remainder of her essence, akin to Solas’ Memory Fragment Wolf Statuettes. Rook will also receive experience points, 250 Veil Jumpers Strength, and Mythal’s Light, a unique longsword.
How to Utilize Mythal’s Essence in Dragon Age: The Veilguard
Complete the Heart of Corruption Quest
Mythal’s Essence can be used in the Heart of Corruption side quest situated in the Crossroads within Dragon Age: The Veilguard. When Rook and their party engage in the final battle against the Revenant Dragon, Mythal will join the fray in her dragon form, dealing significant damage and helping to reduce the boss’s armor.
Completing The Heart of Corruption is pivotal for the game’s endgame, as its outcome directly influences the strength of The Ultimate Salvation of Felassan Rune, which Morrigan bestows upon Rook. This Rune, like others gathered throughout Dragon Age: The Veilguard, can be infused into Solas’ Lyrium Dagger for powerful in-battle effects. Additionally, progressing through the Heart of Corruption questline is necessary to unlock a secret ending in Dragon Age: The Veilguard, and Mythal’s Essence streamlines this process considerably.
