With the 1.6 update of Stardew Valley, players can now buy books from a vendors known as the Bookseller, located somewhere in the valley. Purchasing these books can provide various buffs or bonuses that enhance your farming, fishing, or skill development. While players can find books scattered throughout the game, buying them from the Bookseller can save you the trouble of searching.
Keep in mind that Marcello, the Bookseller, doesn’t operate year-round. He makes an appearance just twice each season. There’s no fixed schedule for his visits, but you can keep an eye on the calendar outside Pierre’s store. If you see a hot-air balloon icon, that signifies his shop is open for business that day.
Where to Find the Bookseller
Once you notice the hot-air balloon marked on the calendar, head to the northeast part of town. The Bookseller’s shop can be found directly north of JoJo Mart. When you arrive, you’ll discover a variety of books offering valuable buffs that can benefit your gameplay.
It’s important to note that some books can be quite pricey—upwards of 20,000g. For example, “Ol’ Slitherlegs” enhances your speed when strolling through grass or crops.
Consider purchasing books that correspond to the skills or bonuses you need, particularly if you want to optimize your farming days. While investing in these books can be costly, there’s a way to save Gold by utilizing another feature offered by the Bookseller.
How to Save Money with the Bookseller
Besides selling books, the Bookseller allows you to duplicate books you already possess. You can either keep them for the bonuses they provide or trade the duplicates back to him for valuable resources like Coal, Deluxe Bait, Pepper Poppers, and Fairy Dust, among other items.
Books Sold at the Bookseller’s Shop
The selection of books at the Bookseller’s shop changes with each visit. It’s beneficial to check back if you need to advance a specific skill, obtain a particular upgrade, or increase your horse’s speed.
Some notable books available for purchase include “Bait and Bobber,” which grants 250 Fishing XP. One of my personal favorites, the “Book of Stars,” provides a boost to all five skills. Additionally, the book “Horse: The Book” permanently improves your speed while riding a horse, which is an essential upgrade in Stardew Valley.
Adding the Bookseller in the 1.6 update significantly enhances the gameplay, allowing for strategic upgrades that positively impact your character. Although these books can be a bit of an investment, they ultimately save you time and effort, letting you focus on other fun activities in the game.
