This month, Team GO Rocket in Pokémon GO has undergone significant changes, including the introduction of the formidable Grunt, Ke Ke Ke Ke. You can find Team GO Rocket members at various PokeStops and Rocket Balloons throughout the game. During the recent Crown Clash: Taken Over event in May 2025, every Team GO Rocket member adjusted their line-ups, which they had maintained for several months.
As you explore PokeStops and Rocket Balloons, you’ll face different GO Rocket Grunt teams. Each team specializes in a particular Pokémon type, with Ke Ke Ke Ke presenting the toughest challenge, featuring an all Ghost-type team. Defeating these Grunts is essential for battling the GO Rocket Leaders and ultimately the Boss, Giovanni.

Ke Ke Ke Ke Grunt Team & Counters In Pokémon GO (June 2025)
One Change To Ghost Team
In June 2025, Team GO Rocket Leader Giovanni updated his roster, and so did the Ke Ke Ke Ke Grunt team. Each Grunt’s team comprises nine Pokémon divided into three waves of three, chosen randomly for each encounter. For Ke Ke Ke Ke, only one Pokémon has been swapped out since May 2025, and that change occurs in its second wave.
All Pokémon in the Ke Ke Ke Ke team are Shadow Pokémon. The first wave will include one of the following: Gastly, Golett, or Duskull. The second will either consist of another Golett, Sableye, or a new addition this month, Dusclops. Finally, you may encounter one of the following in June 2025: Gengar, Alolan Marowak, or Froslass.

While all of Ke Ke Ke Ke’s Pokémon are Ghost-types, many have dual types, complicating the battles. This makes it essential to choose the right Pokémon. Although eight of the nine Pokémon are weak to both Dark- and Ghost-type moves, tactically selecting your Pokémon can turn the battles in your favor.
Avoid using other Ghost-type Pokémon despite their effectiveness against Ke Ke Ke Ke’s team, as they will also sustain increased damage.
Your best strategy includes selecting two Dark-type Pokémon to counter most foes. Tyranitar and Darkrai are excellent choices, as both are powerful attackers with essential Dark-type moves and are particularly effective against Ke Ke Ke Ke’s new Pokémon, Dusclops.
For your third Pokémon, consider a Fairy-type fighter to take on Sableye, as it does not have weaknesses to Dark-type moves. Instead, it is vulnerable to Fairy-type attacks, so bringing Togekiss or Xerneas as your last Pokémon will nicely round out your team.
Rewards For Beating Rocket Grunts In Pokémon GO
A Shadow Encounter Awaits
When you defeat any Team GO Rocket Grunt, including Ke Ke Ke Ke in June 2025, you will be rewarded with various items. One of your main goals should be to defeat six Grunts, allowing you to challenge a GO Rocket Leader and, ultimately, Boss Giovanni, who offer enticing rewards.
For every GO Rocket Grunt you defeat this month, you will earn 5,000 stardust, a valuable resource for powering up your Pokémon, regardless of whether they were in battle.
After emerging victorious, you will encounter the Pokémon that Ke Ke Ke Ke began the battle with, which could be either Gastly, Duskull, or Golett. Though challenging, Ke Ke Ke Ke can be bested by assembling a strong team of Dark-type Pokémon in Pokémon GO.
