Dead Island 2 features various ‘Lost and Found’ quests that resemble treasure hunts, with valuable rewards that make their completion worthwhile. While you’re busy dispatching zombies, acquiring a new weapon from these quests can significantly enhance your gaming experience.
One of the earlier quests, titled "My Mailman Was a Zombie," comes with a few prerequisites before you can embark on it. Successfully completing this quest will earn you a rare rifle, which is why it’s advisable to tackle it while you’re progressing through the game’s storyline.
Getting Started with "My Mailman Was a Zombie"
To begin the quest, you must first finish the Serengeti Siren story quest, where you’ll team up with Sam B to acquire some firearms. At the start of the Flushed quest, you’ll find yourself back at Emma Jaunt’s mansion in Bel-Air, which is convenient since this is where the mailman quest takes place.
Before we started this Lost and Found mission, we also finished the "Clickbait" and "The Death of the Party" side quests in the same area.
Follow the Alpine Drive road (or Access Road 782) from Emma Jaunt’s mansion, taking shortcuts as necessary until you near the GOAT Pen, as indicated on the map. You’ll spot a van situated beside another mansion owned by Curtis Sinclair. Approach this van to pick up a ‘Signature Required’ note next to a large crate, which will kick off the quest.
Locations of Mailman Packages
The note you found outlines multiple locations where the mailman, Wayne, was supposed to deliver packages. You’ll need to visit these spots to search for the packages and keys to the crate. The locations are:
- 59 Alpine Drive: The GOAT Pen
- 143 Glitterati Corner: Mr. and Mrs. Doe
- 70 Alpine Drive: Colt Swanson
The best route to visit these locations is as listed above. This way, you can easily reach the last package at Colt Swanson’s mansion while collecting the other two along the way.
GOAT Pen Packages
The initial set of packages is straightforward to find. Just walk forward from the locked crate’s location and follow the driveway down to the GOAT Pen. As you approach the side door, you’ll find what appears to be a dead zombie propped against a wall, with the packages visible beside a palm tree.
Approach the packages and interact with them; your character will provide some dialogue. After this, you’re ready to proceed to the next package, but watch out! The zombie nearby will rise and others will rush down, leading to a brief skirmish.
Mr. and Mrs. Doe’s Packages
Next, head to the upper-left section of Bel-Air where Glitterati Corner is located. Look for the older gentleman’s star (Curtis Sinclair) on the map; his house is where you’ll need to go. Outside the driveway, you’ll find packages stacked against the gate leading to the house.
Run up and interact with these packages to complete that delivery before heading to Colt Swanson’s mansion.
Colt Swanson Packages
The Colt Swanson mansion is the first one you’ll encounter in Bel-Air, and you’ll need to make your way back there. Travel up the left side of the mansion by following the road to the right from your previous location and cut through the area.
In front of the mansion, you’ll find the garage. Although there aren’t any packages here, you’ll see Wayne the Mailman blocking your path.
How to Defeat Wayne the Mailman
To collect the keys for the crate and wrap up the Lost and Found quest, you must defeat Wayne. This zombie can spew caustic acid, so keep your distance when he looks ready to vomit.
If you have a spare rifle and ammunition, aim for Wayne’s head for a swift takedown. Should you run out of bullets, consider using a ranged weapon, like a Pole Saw. An electric star in your Curveball loadout can also assist you, as it will temporarily immobilize Wayne.
During the fight, focus on dodging his attacks and striking when he’s vulnerable. Remember to heal as needed, and you’ll be victorious in no time.
Once Wayne is defeated, you can collect the mailman’s keys and return to the locked crate to unlock it.
Rewards for "My Mailman Was a Zombie"
Upon opening the crate, the quest "My Mailman Was a Zombie" will conclude, granting you 2,000 XP and 100 cash. Most importantly, you’ll receive a unique rifle called Raven from the chest.
This rifle is an excellent addition for the mid-game, boasting a base power of 235 alongside Precision Shots and High Caliber perks. There’s also a slot for an additional perk, as well as room for a mod. This is the last thing many zombies will see before they meet their end at the hands of your new Raven rifle.
