Optional locations, side characters, and quests can easily be overlooked if you don’t take the time to explore. Certain NPCs appear only in specific areas, and some story arcs will only unfold through exploration. For instance, you can join the Alchemist Guild, but only after fulfilling certain hidden requirements that the game doesn’t explicitly outline.
How to Start the Whispers in the Dark Quest
To kick off the Whispers in the Dark quest, you first need to locate a secret character named Taranis within a cave. Head north in the Horns of the South, where you’ll notice a path lined with stone statues along the way.
If you follow this path, you’ll arrive at a large door leading to the Mistbearer’s Den. Once inside, Taranis will be right in front of you.
When you approach him, he’ll caution you that no one has managed to traverse the path before him, but you’re not just anyone.
You can reassure him that you’ll clear the way and agree to join the collaboration he suggests, which will trigger the quest.
How to Defeat Mistbearer
Close to Taranis, you’ll find a panel to interact with, which will unlock the path deeper into Mistbearer’s Den.
Continue through the cave until you reach a mysterious altar at the base of a giant tree.
Interact with the altar, and you’ll be transported to a circular arena where you will face the boss, Mistbearer.
As suggested by his name, the Mistbearer will create mist throughout the arena, so it’s wise to avoid it. He will also s summon illusions of himself along with minions to assist him during the battle. Your priority should be to eliminate these distractions while dealing damage to him.
Using fire spells is particularly effective; if you have one, utilize it to inflict burn damage over time. If you possess a spell that can summon minion allies, deploy it to help divert attention from you while you focus on the boss.
Utilizing the rocks scattered around the arena can provide cover if you need to heal or regenerate stamina.
How to Complete the Whispers in the Dark Quest
After defeating the Mistbearer, a portal door will appear, allowing you to return to the real world. From there, head back to Taranis and talk to him.
Let him know that you’ve slain the Mistbearer and present the remains as proof. He’ll express his gratitude and reward you for your efforts, officially welcoming you into the Alchemist Guild.
