Among the various quests in Tainted Grail: The Fall Of Avalon, “The Word Is Silent” stands out as particularly frustrating. Although the quest itself is quite straightforward, the lack of detailed instructions makes it a challenge.

Once you find the note on the beach, your main task is to deliver it to someone. Unfortunately, if you track the quest, there’s not a single marker to guide you. But don’t fret; while the game may leave you guessing, we’ll walk you through what you need to know from start to finish.

How To Start “The Word Is Silent” Quest

You can only kick off “The Word Is Silent” quest when you first arrive at the beach on Asylum Island. After defeating the Golem boss, go through a magical archway, and you’ll find yourself facing the beach. Move forward and take a right; you should spot a statue in the distance. A few steps later, you’ll come across the wreck of a small boat.

Make your way toward the wreckage. Once you’re in shallow water, you should notice a narrow path through the rocky part of the island. Take a couple of steps ahead and look to your right. You’ll find a Red Priest’s corpse tucked away in a small rocky alcove. The Letter to the Prior will be at their feet. Read it to officially start the quest. Whatever you do, don’t overlook the alcove; it’s easy to miss, but it’s very close to the wrecked boat.

If you’re determined to take on this quest but have already left the beach, I’m afraid you’re out of luck. It looks like there’s no way to return to the island.

Father Vaughan’s Notes

While you’re in the Asylum, if you check the cells, you’ll find the remains of a woman who died during childbirth. Reading the notes left by Father Vaughan will trigger the Unforgettable quest. I mention this because “The Word Is Silent” has some ties to that quest, but it’s not essential. If you’ve already left the Asylum and made it to the beach, unfortunately, you won’t be able to go back and grab Father Vaughan’s Notes.

Where To Locate Brother Riagan

The next step in this quest can be completed after you reach The Horns of the South. The fortress that the Keepers inhabit is located east of the beach where you washed ashore. You’ll need to head there for the main storyline, so if you track the “Shadow of the Horns” quest, a marker will help you find the fortress on your map. Once inside, head to the northeast garden, and you’ll come across Brother Riagan.

Keep in mind, you won’t find Brother Riagan here during the night.

Now that you have the Letter to the Prior, talk to Brother Riagan and choose the following dialogue options:

  • “Thank you, I’ve already been blessed. With tongs, pincers, fire…”
  • “You’re a Red Priest. I think you know what I mean.” or “It must have been a long time since you’ve visited the Island Asylum.”
  • “Here’s your proof. Is this enough?”

If you accidentally left the Letter to the Prior in your stash box, no worries. Just retrieve it and talk to Brother Riagan again; you’ll have another chance to present your proof.

Once you’ve given Brother Riagan the proof, that part of the dialogue will conclude, but you can ask him more questions or shop for items. However, don’t finish here. Talk to Riagan once more. He’ll mention that he’s been reflecting on your conversation and also bring up Katrin, a pregnant woman who sought help.

If you’ve read Father Vaughan’s Notes in Katrin’s cell during your time in the Asylum, you can choose the dialogue option: “Katrin and her son died in the dungeons. I saw their remains.” This is when you’ll give him Father Vaughan’s Notes.

Interestingly, I didn’t need to have the note on me. Even after tossing it away, I was still able to offer it to him. This might be a bug, but it’s clear the quest is quite forgiving in this aspect.

After this interaction, Riagan will renounce the church, and the quest will wrap up. You will earn 75 XP for completing it. If you had Father Vaughan’s Notes when you spoke to him, you will receive an additional 50 XP.
