In Tainted Grail: The Fall Of Avalon, you’re not confined to just the main storyline. You can take detours, explore various paths, or even attack vital characters that influence your journey. This freedom allows for a chaotic playstyle, and you can earn achievements for causing trouble—just be careful of Caradoc!
Taking down Caradoc isn’t straightforward, but with some patience and practice, it can be accomplished. We’ll guide you on how to defeat him while also snagging some great loot and achievements along the way. No hard feelings will be involved!
Finding Caradoc at the Island Asylum
After Caradoc rescues you from your cell in the Red Priest’s prison, you have the freedom to explore the Island Asylum for as long as you wish. However, eventually, you need to move on. Navigating without an indoor map can leave you a bit lost.
To find Caradoc with ease, follow these steps:
- Turn left from your cell and proceed to the end of the hall, where you’ll find a guard pinned to a chair.
- When you reach the storage room, take another left and go down the stairs to where the undead emerge from their cells.
- Make another left to arrive at the locked Laboratory door.
- Turn right to cross the bridge that overlooks a torture chamber.
- At the stairs, turn right and head down to the area where a Red Priest is stationed.
- Make a left to discover a hole in the wall where Caradoc awaits.
It’s possible to kill Caradoc here, but it’s quite difficult and not advisable.
Defeating Caradoc at the Island Asylum
The most effective time to confront Caradoc is when he comes back to the beach with you at night. This timing gives you a chance to level up at the campfire and save your game before the fight.
When you’re prepared, ensure your gear includes both spells and a bow. Strike quickly for a sneak attack on Caradoc, then retreat to safety.
Don’t stray too far! If you do, Caradoc will switch to ranged attacks, escalating the challenge.
If Caradoc lands even a single hit, it’s game over. Find cover behind rocks or hop into a boat. Standing on crates where Caradoc can’t reach you allows you to whittle down his health safely.
As his health declines, he may attempt to heal. A well-placed headshot can interrupt this, but be careful; Caradoc might move out of position. Stay calm, adjust your strategy, and continue hitting him with spells and arrows, steering clear of close combat.
The Burning Embers spell will ignite Caradoc, inflicting significant damage over time.
Once Caradoc’s health hits zero, he’ll collapse but isn’t dead yet. Quickly go to his body and use the execute command to finish him off before he recovers health, or you’ll have to restart.
After executing him, you can loot his body for a note and all of his gear. It may weigh you down initially, but you can wear some pieces to stay safe. You’ll also earn the No Chains, No Destiny achievement/trophy.
Keep this armor! You’ll need it to achieve the Double Identity trophy/achievement.
Afterward, hop into the boat and make your way to the mainland. There’s still work ahead.
Unlocking the Double Identity Trophy/Achievement
When you arrive at the Horns of the South, head north from the shipwrecked beach and northeast of Blood Lake. You’ll spot a path leading up to the Shrine of a Forgotten God. Before you enter the Lair of the Beast, you’ll see Caradoc resting on the rocks.
Make sure to wear each piece of Caradoc’s Ranger Armor before talking to him. You can ask him anything as he’ll respond differently based on your past conversations. Eventually, he’ll inform you that you must obtain Excalibur by yourself.
Surprisingly, he won’t mention anything about your having killed him or wearing his gear.
Choose any dialogue options you wish. After he departs, the achievement should unlock, marking your successful theft of Caradoc’s identity and dignity. Great job!
Talking to Caradoc after obtaining Excalibur doesn’t count toward the achievement, even if you’re wearing the armor. It must be done before you secure the second piece of King Arthur’s soul.
