In Tainted Grail: The Fall Of Avalon, power can be perilous, especially for those trapped in the Abyss of King Sagremor. Getting the formidable Queen Sagremor to give up her control is no simple feat. Ultimately, your only option may be to confront and defeat her, which is a daunting task.
Fortunately, we can guide you in preparing for this challenge against the royals in their throne room. With some skill and a touch of luck, you can free the Abyss from the enduring curse that binds its inhabitants.
How to Reach King and Queen Sagremor
To meet the King and Queen of the Abyss of Sagremor, you need to gain an audience during the Throne of the Depths quest. This involves assisting both of the queen’s sisters in specific tasks:
Upon completing these missions, the Custodian will appear to provide you with the key to access the throne room and chapel. Move through the doors at the far end of the hall, beyond the statue of the All-Mother, to reach the chapel.
Inside, you’ll encounter the mushroom-headed figure that offers to show you something. Agreeing to this reveals the Mycelium, a fungal entity that can take control of its hosts. It requests you to collect a fragment of itself and infect the king when you find him.
This is your sole opportunity to agree, so be sure to take a piece. You can ponder your decision later.
Once you have the Mycelium fragment, head through the rear doors of the chapel and take the lift down to the throne room. It will be sealed off, so be sure to save and prepare before facing Queen Sagremor.
How to Defeat Queen Sagremor
Entering the throne room triggers a cutscene featuring the undead lich, Queen Sagremor. Corrupted and decayed, she confronts you with a glowing red spectral sword, swinging it in an attempt to cleave you in half. Avoid this at all costs.
As she dashes around the throne room, use the pillars as shields to protect yourself while you find your footing. Ranged attacks with throwing knives can be effective if you’re struggling to get close.
Make sure to dodge her sweeping attack; it packs a serious punch.
Besides her powerful swordplay, she can summon spectral ice spikes that can freeze you temporarily. While immobilized, you must rely on blocking and utilizing Lifesteal magic to recover from her attacks.
Once you defeat the queen, make sure to pick up her Spectral Sword and loot her body afterward, as her gear is an excellent addition for any mage.
Should You Infect King Sagremor with the Mycelium or Let Him Die?
After dealing with the queen, you must now consider the king’s fate. As you speak with King Sagremor on his throne, be aware that the Abyss is about to collapse, leading to the demise of all trapped within. Before this occurs, King Sagremor will share his half of the Cracked Menhir Rites Tablet.
You now face a choice. You can decide to allow the Mycelium to take control of the king’s body. To do this, inform him that the Fungal Envoy will grant the abyss a new beginning.
This is your one chance, so don’t miss it!
Letting the Mycelium take over offers a merciful end to everyone trapped in the Abyss of Sagremor. After doing so, when you engage with others inside, you’ll hear the Mycelium’s voice through them. This is the most effective way to manage this dungeon without it crumbling.
However, this decision also makes the inhabitants invulnerable, meaning you can’t defeat them or collect loot from the king or the sisters, who possess unique enchanted items.
If unsure, save your game before making this choice and infect the king to earn The Sporeborn King trophy or achievement. You can then reload your save and let the king die to gather loot before heading back to Cuanacht.
The king is weakened, seated on his throne, so take him out and then return to the sisters’ chambers to collect their gear.
While you’re at it, don’t forget to deal with Renaud. It’s time to put the royal family to rest after their centuries of suffering.
