If you’re looking to access the All-Mother’s temple in Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon without battling an army, you’ll need to earn the trust of Vrann, the leader of the Volker camp outside the temple and One-Eye’s second-in-command. This quest stands out as it offers four different outcomes, each with its own set of rewards.
This guide will walk you through all the potential paths in this quest, detail where to find the required materials, and help you understand the various rewards you can obtain.
How to Start the Acts of Kindness Quest
To kick off the quest, head to the northeast corner of the map, marked as the "All-Mother’s Temple," assuming you’ve unlocked all the fast travel locations. Once you’re there, speak with Mabyn, who will challenge you to a duel. While she’s no pushover, her attacks are straightforward—she primarily uses a longsword, and if you’re around level ten, you should have no trouble parrying her attacks.
After defeating Mabyn, go to the triangular house on the east side of the camp and talk to Vrann. Let her know you wish to enter the temple. She’ll inform you that you need to prove your worth first, and you’ll need to drink the potion she hands you to establish your trustworthiness.
Vrann will express a desire to make a peace offering to the Keepers. She suggests an ear necklace made from the ears of bandits, which is the easiest solution since you’ll be provided with all the materials. However, this choice might lead to hostility between the two factions. It’s also the least rewarding option since this pathway is the only one that doesn’t provide additional rewards. Still, you will earn 500 XP for giving the necklace to Fearghas, and another 1000 XP when you return to talk to Vrann.
A Better Approach
You can argue against the ear necklace idea by saying, "Gifting someone’s body parts isn’t exactly well-received around here." This is essentially a skill check, but even with no points in Practicality, I’ve never failed it. Vrann will then ask for your suggestions, and you can choose from three alternative peace offerings:
- "I think that potion would be a perfect gift." – Weak Mathair’s Battlerage Potion
- "You should put more faith in Ugh’we." – Ulfr Ceremonial Axe
- "What about Therrov?" – Theud Protection Charm
How to Make the Weak Mathair’s Battlerage Potion
To craft this potion, you’ll need to gather:
- 3 Iron Teeth
- 1 Moonshine
- 5 Wolfsbane
Once you have these ingredients, return to Vrann, who will give you the recipe for the Weak Mathair’s Battlerage Potion. Afterward, take it to Fearghas, who will appreciate the exchange and reward you with a barrel of fish. When you bring the fish back to Vrann, she’ll be pleased, granting you an additional 1000 XP and the key to the temple. This choice ensures everyone is satisfied, and the potion is definitely useful.
Note: The Weak Mathair’s Battlerage Potion reduces incoming damage by 15% for 60 seconds.
How to Make the Ulfr Ceremonial Axe
First, talk to Ugh’we and exhaust all conversation options. Inform him that Vrann wants him to craft an axe for the Keepers, stating it’s an order from One-Eye. He will provide you with the recipe for the Ulfr Ceremonial Axe, which requires:
- 12 Iron Ore
- 8 Wood
- 5 Bear Claws
You can find wood within the fort at the chopping block. The iron and bear claws can be obtained from the east side of the map. Head to the Ruined Broch fast travel marker to mine for iron and look for bears in the area. Just be prepared to take them down, as they can be tough. Using summons or a spear along with potions is advised.
Once you’ve crafted the axe, bring it back to Ugh’we for final touches before delivering it to Fearghas, who will reluctantly accept it and grant you 500 XP. After returning to Vrann, you’ll earn another 1000 XP and the temple key. This option generally leads to a favorable outcome and gives you an excellent axe if you prefer strength builds.
Note: The axe increases critical damage by 100% and has a strength requirement of 12.
How to Make the Protective Talisman
To craft the Theud Protection Charm, speak with Therrov and let him know that Vrann wants him to create a gift (without mentioning potions). Tell him it’s an order from One-Eye, and he will share the charm’s recipe. You’ll need:
- 2 Linen Fiber
- 1 Wood
- 1 Bone
For the bone, go to the graveyard north of the fort, where you can find it on a skeleton enemy. The wood can be collected from the chopping block in the fort, and the Linen Fibers can be found nearby. After crafting the charm, take it to Fearghas; he may threaten to arrest you but return to Vrann, who will be unhappy yet will still reward you with 1000 XP and the key to the temple.
Note: The charm grants a random blessing for 300 seconds after sleeping.
