Dune: Awakening faces an exciting challenge with its sandworms. It’s not a concern in a bad way; rather, it adds to the thrill. Spending too much time wandering the dunes can lead to one major issue—being consumed by a sandworm.
Avoiding this fate is tricky, but one effective strategy is to use a sandbike. These speedy vehicles help you traverse the terrain much faster than walking, making a significant difference when a sandworm is approaching rapidly.
How to Get a Sandbike
At the start, you won’t be able to grab a sandbike immediately, especially during the initial missions. However, if you’re adventurous, you can gather the materials to create one much earlier. Below, we’ll outline exactly what you’ll need.
If you’re considering skipping the quests leading to the sandbike, it’s wise to gather some gear upgrades first. Your starting weapons may suffice, but crafting better armor will definitely help.
The Across The Gap Quest
You’ll create your first sandbike during the Across The Gap quest, part of the A New Beginning storyline. This quest involves several steps and follows right after The Wreck of the Alcyon quest.
How to Find Imperial Testing Station No. 2
Imperial Testing Station No. 2 is situated just west of Griffin’s Reach Trading Outpost, and east of the Alcyon Wreck, nestled in between them.
During this quest, you’ll venture underground into an Imperial facility where things have evidently gone awry. Keep an eye out for containers within, as they hold materials that will be useful for your mission.
You’ll specifically need to collect six Particle Capacitators and 13 Advanced Servoks. There will be ample loot here, including unique schematics found in the containers.
Go Back to Your Base
Once you’ve gathered the necessary materials (and likely cleared the Testing Station), it’s time to return to your base to use your Fabricator. Ensure that you’ve researched Sandbike Mk1 Assembly if you haven’t done so already.
For assembly, you’ll need a PSU, three Treads, an Engine, a Chassis, and a Hull. The materials collected earlier will come in handy, along with 37 Copper Ingots.
You might find some parts for your sandbike during your explorations. If they’re damaged, it’s often better to craft entirely new parts instead of using broken ones for your new vehicle.
Build a Small Chemical Refinery
After fabricating the required parts, you’ll need to produce fuel for your sandbike. If you haven’t done so yet, research and build a Small Chemical Refinery at your base, which will require an additional 17 Copper Ingots.
Once built, interact with the Refinery to create either a small or medium Vehicle Fuel Cell. Without this, your sandbike may look impressive but won’t be functional.
You’ll need Water and Fuel Cells to craft the Vehicle Fuel Cell, both of which are relatively simple to find. A Small Fuel Cell requires 25 Fuel Cells, whereas a Medium one takes 45.
How to Assemble Your Sandbike
To assemble your sandbike, first fabricate a Welding Torch, which will need six Copper Ingots. Find a suitable flat location easily accessible to the dunes for assembly.
You must construct each part individually, and all options for the parts you have will appear in the assembly menu. If you own two engines, for instance, you’ll pick the one in better condition for the build.
How to Refuel Your Sandbike
Once your sandbike is complete, it’s time to refuel it. Approach the vehicle and hold the interact button. Select the Refuel option from the menu to use the fuel you created, and your sandbike will be ready to hit the dunes.
It’s wise to store your sandbike in a sheltered area, either inside your base or in a dedicated garage, to prevent environmental damage over time.
