Elden Ring Nightreign invites players to rediscover some favorite talismans from the original game. However, acquiring them this time is quite the challenge. The talismans you need seem elusive, while those you stumble upon may not stick around for long.
Fortunately, if you search diligently and return to familiar spots often enough, you might uncover that sought-after gem. Even if luck isn’t on your side, you’ll likely find items that will aid you in your mission to conquer the night and send the Nightlords to rest. When you’re part of a trio racing against time, every talisman truly matters.
What Is a Talisman?
A talisman is an equipable item that enhances your abilities in various ways. Typically, players can equip two talismans, and if you ever find one that doesn’t fit your style, swapping it out is always an option.
Talismans can provide enhancements like:
- Increasing maximum health
- Boosting damage output
- Reducing damage taken
- Enhancing item discovery from defeated foes
- Restoring health from critical hits
- And more…
There are 21 distinct types of talismans available, each with potential variations in level and rarity.
How Do I Get a Talisman?
Talismans can be found in numerous ways throughout your adventure and can appear at any time, whether day or night:
- Defeating scarabs
- Looting treasure chests
Additionally, certain relics may provide effects similar to those of talismans, but they aren’t classified as talismans. The advantages from relics will stack with the actual talismans you acquire.
Note: Some players have reported that talismans can drop very rarely from bosses, though this hasn’t been consistently verified.
Scarabs are generally the most effective way to obtain talismans. They always drop one, although the specific talisman received will vary each time. When you hear the characteristic sound of a nearby scarab, it’s wise to take a moment to track it down, as the rewards can be minimal in cost but substantial in value.
Caution: Each scarab only provides a single talisman, which cannot be shared. In cooperative play, other players may collect talismans from scarabs you defeat. Thankfully, scarabs are plentiful, especially in central areas and open fields.
Certain chests in the game world consistently contain talismans. The most reliable source for a talisman is inside Fort Haight.
This location is always the same and can be found in every map instance, unaffected by any shifts in the environment or quests involving Nightlords.
To access it, you’ll need to navigate through the undercroft beneath the main gate bridge and defeat the boss located in the cellar. Once you remove the fog wall, you’ll ascend the stairs (take care of any enemies along the way) and discover the chest in the gatehouse above.
This chest is exceptional as it contains three talismans. Your party can each select one to use.
Important: It’s highly unlikely that you’ll find duplicates of the talismans (in type and level) from this chest elsewhere if you don’t choose them right away. Don’t skip a talisman you like under the assumption that it will appear again. You can trade talismans with others by dropping them on the ground and then picking them back up.
