Elden Ring Nightreign marks a significant shift from the original game it’s based on. This roguelike title features the longest journey back to a boss in FromSoftware’s history. The focus is heavily on combat and boss encounters, moving away from the exploration and narrative elements that defined earlier iterations.
That said, it still keeps many of the beloved features that made the series famous. While they may be a bit more obscure than in the original, gestures and Prattling Pates make a comeback in Nightreign. Here’s how to access them and acquire more.
How to Use Gestures
In the original Elden Ring, there was a specific menu just for gestures that you could access from the main menu, allowing you to bind up to six for quick use. However, with Nightreign altering much of the user interface and equipment functionality, the process for using gestures has changed.
Fortunately, it might even be simpler now. When you open the main menu, just press Triangle/Y to bring up the full gestures menu, which now also includes any Prattling Pates you have. While you can’t assign them to shortcuts anymore, accessing them initially is quicker than before.
How to Unlock More Gestures
You might wonder about unlocking additional gestures. In Nightreign, all gestures are obtained through purchase, unlike the original Elden Ring, where many were unlocked by action. So, while you won’t have to complete tricky tasks to get new gestures, you will need to pay for them with Murk at the Small Jar Bazaar.
Yes, the Small Jar Bazaar is your only source for acquiring more gestures and Prattling Pates in Nightreign. The good news is that once you buy them, they’re yours to keep, allowing you to use them freely without worrying about losing them. Even in this challenging roguelike, at least you can hold onto your gestures.
Tip: Gestures can also impact gameplay when combined with the Night of the Demon Relic, as the Crossed Legs gesture can quickly build up Madness.
