Elden Ring Nightreign takes a distinct approach compared to the original Elden Ring game. While the original was celebrated for its vast world and the freedom it offered for exploration, Nightreign shifts the focus significantly towards enhancing the combat experience. Without a rich world to explore, how does this new setting captivate players?

The answer lies in its unique, pre-designed characters. Each of these Nightfarers offers a different playstyle, each tied to a story about Remembrances that allows them to revisit forgotten moments from their past. One of the characters, Ironeye, arrives at the Roundtable Hold with a specific mission, some aspects of which have yet to unfold.

What Is the Journal?

Though there are many Nightfarers to choose from, the Roundtable can only accommodate so many stories. This is where the Journal comes in—a book situated near the garden area of the Roundtable Hold. The Journal features entries that relate to each character, revealing their narratives with every new entry.

The Journal also serves as the access point for Remembrances, activated through the latest entry once they’re unlocked. Typically, each character has about eight Journal entries, though this number varies. For example, Executor has seven entries, while the Guardian boasts ten.

A helpful tip: You can tell when most character’s Journal entries are finished by a sketch appearing on the final entry.

Fortunately, you can check the Journal anytime while in the Roundtable Hold, no matter which character you’re playing. If you need to refresh your memory about one character’s journey, just take a look at the Journal.

How to Unlock Memory Fragments

Memory Fragments in Nightreign are a somewhat abstract idea. They aren’t items you can put in your inventory to unlock Journal entries or Remembrances. Instead, Memory Fragments unlock mostly at random and automatically advance the next Journal entry or Remembrance for the character you were using when you earned them.

Finding these Memory Fragments can be tricky. While some methods for acquiring them are more likely, none are guaranteed. For instance, certain characters can obtain Memory Fragments by performing unique actions—like Executor managing several deflections. However, this is quite random and often unclear.

Instead, it’s better to focus on more reliable methods. Generally, defeating Nightlords with a specific character will yield Memory Fragments, which also translates into more Remembrances. Each new Remembrance often requires greater progress than the last. For instance, you can usually unlock a character’s first Remembrance just by participating in an expedition, regardless of your success in the match. However, later Remembrances often necessitate defeating a Nightlord at the end of an expedition.

Sometimes, obtaining a Memory Fragment will only unlock a new Journal entry and not a Remembrance. Other times, you might receive a single Memory Fragment that grants multiple Journal entries and Remembrances. More often, though, you’ll unlock a single Remembrance with each Memory Fragment.

Ironeye’s Remembrances

Most characters feature three Remembrances, but there are exceptions. For instance, the Guardian has four Remembrances, while Ironeye has only two, technically speaking. Ironeye has two active Remembrances that must be unlocked, plus a personal goal inferred from reading his Journal entries. Here’s what you need to know about his Remembrances and how to achieve his unique ending.

Remembrance #1

Ironeye’s first Remembrance sends him to Limveld in search of a letter held by a traitor from the Fellowship he belongs to. Here’s how to complete this task:

  1. Speak to the Priestess.
  2. Ask her all possible questions.
  3. Defeat the Condemned in Limveld.
  4. Return to the Priestess.

The traitor appears as a Condemned who resembles Ironeye and wields a dagger that causes significant Blood Loss, along with the Swarm of Flies Incantation for ranged attacks. They can also mark you like the real Ironeye. Keeping your distance is key to avoiding excessive Blood Loss. Manual aiming can help if you position yourself higher up.

Don’t hesitate to wait until the second day to confront the traitor, as they are quite formidable, but make sure you’re at least level three before engaging. After defeating the traitor, you’ll receive the Traitor’s Letter. Bring it back to the Priestess to complete the Remembrance and earn the Broken Sealing Wax Relic and Ironeye’s Chalice for Relic Rites.

Remembrance #2

In his second and final Remembrance, Ironeye must eliminate another traitor while uncovering dark truths about himself. Completing it involves:

  1. Speaking to the Priestess in the crypt.
  2. Eliminating the traitor.
  3. Traveling to Limveld to obtain an Edge of Order, which requires defeating the Darkdrift Knight.
  4. Taking out the traitor again.

A crucial detail: You must be in the Realm of Remembrance when undertaking the Darkdrift Knight mission. You can’t do this with a different character and beating a Nightlord solo can be a tough challenge. As you cannot matchmake while in a Remembrance, consider teaming up with friends for assistance.

The Darkdrift Knight, named Fulghor, is vulnerable to Lightning. Equip a weapon with this attribute before the fight. Generally, stay back and let your allies absorb most of the damage, as he’s a challenging opponent.

Remembrance #3

Ironeye’s last Remembrance works differently than the others because it’s not yet realized. Remembrances imply memories of past events, and since Ironeye’s third Remembrance hasn’t occurred yet, he needs to finish his mission—defeating the Night Aspect.

To complete this final Remembrance, you have to take down the Night Aspect. Given that this doesn’t happen in the Realm of Remembrance, you can freely engage in matchmaking. As the game’s final boss, trying to defeat it solo might be tough, so gather a reliable team.

While not strictly necessary, of course, consider equipping Ironeye’s Edge of Order Relic during the expedition, as it grants his bow a Holy attribute, to which the Night Aspect is susceptible. Upon defeating Heolstor, you’ll find yourself in a ruined version of the Roundtable Hold. An emaciated body awaits you there. Instead of placing the Nightlord’s Rune within the figure, choose to ‘Clench Dagger’, confirming your choice in the next prompt.

This action will lead Ironeye to eliminate the figure, thereby completing his mission. After the credits roll, you’ll receive Ironeye’s Remembrance outfit, marking the conclusion of his journey.

Note: Since Ironeye’s ending differs from the game’s default conclusion, you won’t earn a trophy or achievement for finishing the game this way.
