In Atomfall, limited carrying space and scarce resources often mean you’ll face difficult choices about what to take with you. Fortunately, many inhabitants of the Quarantine Zone are eager to swap items, allowing you to trade unwanted goods for more useful ones.
There’s no currency in Atomfall; all exchanges are done through bartering. Knowing what traders have and what they prefer in return can help you prepare for challenging missions or restock your essentials when supplies are low.
How to Trade with NPCs in Atomfall
Once you learn about traders, you can find them on the map marked with a set of scales. They remain in fixed locations such as their camps or shops rather than wandering around.
To initiate a trade, talk to the trader and select the appropriate option (it’s always the second from the bottom). During the barter, you can add items from your backpack to your offer while picking items from the trader’s inventory that you want.
You can’t select items that would exceed your backpack’s capacity, so you may need to modify your trade to fit both space and value considerations.
The trade can be completed any time the scales are balanced or leaning toward the trader. Traders won’t accept deals that don’t favor them, but they’re happy to let you take the loss.
Item Values
In general, larger, rarer items hold more value. Common items like individual bullets or basic weapons won’t significantly affect the trade, but essential gear like first aid kits and Atom Batteries do have more weight. Additionally, traders will always want to take more than they give, even if you have the Charisma skill, meaning you can’t simply exchange a handgun for another without including something extra.
Each trader has certain preferred items that they value more highly. These items are marked with a yellow arrow on their icon when you offer them. The trader will usually express interest, saying something like, “Oh, that’s nice!” when you choose one of these items.
All Trader Locations
Each trader in the Zone has different items for sale, and their inventory changes slowly over time.

Subterranean maps don’t utilize coordinates, so for Reg Stansfield, just follow the tracks to find his camp. The traders in Wyndham are located inside their shops, as is Nora in her barn on Skethermoor; the coordinates refer to the entrance.
